Hi Shanko

Just wondering if you'd found your William and Charlotte yet?

If not, any other info to help identify them?  What was 'William's occupation on charlotte's the marriage cert?

Cheers
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan

Sadly no I haven't been able to find Charlotte or her father William :(

Williams occ on her marriage certificate is Blacksmith, other than that thats all I have on them.
I can't even find them on the 1871! Charlotte was living in Clayton street Kennington in 1872

Dirty lil' sneakers they hiding from me

Hi Shanko

I've had a good mooch through 1861 and can only find the likely Charlottes that Cougar found, one with father Richard, the other Joseph - neither are Blacksmiths.

I've had a look for William aged 50ish and not found any with a Charlotte with him Southwark area.

Dang!  Sorry about that.  Perhaps someone else will have a go??

By the by, how did you settle on looking for them in Southwark in 1861?

Cheers

Hi Jonathan

Oh tiddlybums! I was hoping maybe just maybe you would of been able to find William at least. Richard and Joseph I know are not her father

I had Southwark as she was born in the area abt 1851 but even in the 1871 they are not there either not in Southwark or Lambeth basically London way

Like I mentioned to Cougar this family is driving me cuckoo

Thanks anyways for trying for me

tiddlybums! LOL

Scraping the bottom of the barrell here I'm afraid.

The only Mason who I can find who is a blacksmith is a James W Mason, 47, Blacksmith, b. Westminster and living in St Pancras living with wife Elizabeth 41 and Mother who is a Cave.  No Charlotte though.

So sorry to disappoint you  :(

Hi Shanko,

Have you seen the May rootschat challenge yet?

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,54333.0.html

I think that you and Jan may be looking for the same William Mason, smith and family. The address you gave for Charlotte pre-marriage seems to be the same as that Jan has for her ancestor Keziah Mason (father William, Smith).

Not that anyone has mangaged to find Keziah either on the 1861 or 1871 census yet. Do you have the family from 1871?

As the May rootschat challenge is quite long you might find it easiest to go to thelast couple of pages where I think most of the stuff about Kezia is.

Best regards,

Emily

Hi Shanko

I know you were asking for census info on this Mason family, but since this is proving quite difficult (the only Charlotte Mason I found on on the 1871 census was living with her married sister, Frances Carrington and brother in law Richard Carrington in Southwark - it stated Charlotte's occ as Hair Net Maker - Charlotte's age stated as 20 yrs).

I then found this birth entry, which might be her:

MASON, Charlotte
September 1849
St George Southwark
Volume 4
Page 73

and a marriage for Keziah Mason:

Dec qtr - Lambeth - 1d 514

Found a Keziah Mason on 1871 census, aged 21, living as a lodger in  St Marylebone - occ machinist.

Not sure if any of that will be of help, but it's all I could find.

Regards, Leah.

ps (could William Mason have died before the 1861 census or do you have him alive at any point after that?  If you are just going on what the marr cert says, it could be that Charlotte did not mention her father was deceased). Just a thought.

Hi Leah

Thanks, but I now have all birth, death and marriages for my Masons, plus all the census going back to 1841.
My cousin in England sent me copies of all my Mason families details from the Mason family bible.
My Keziah never married she died early
Regards to my William Mason I know for a fact he was alive and well when my Charlotte married thanks to the family bible and many letters Charlotte and William wrote!

Thanks anyway

Shanko
