William Penny look up please
« on: Sunday 06 March 05 18:40 GMT (UK) »
Can any one help me with William Penny 1796 - 1875 m Margaret Crane at St John's Preston in 1826.  Their address was Great Avenham Street, and most of the family and in-laws lived in the Avenham area.  I have only his marriage date and his place of death...Goosnargh Hospital 1875... if any one could look up his address and occupation in 1861 or '51 it might help me in my searches.
Even better, if anyone has the Pennys in their tree and could nudge me towards his birth family origins!

Hi

must have been a long illness.

I found both William aged 75 born as stated on the census info in Laneast? Lancashire and his wife Margaret aged 67 born Preston as inmates in the Goosnarhg Hospital on the night of the 1871 census.

Don't know if it is of any real help.

Hi

Margaret Penny was also in the Goosnargh Hopital the night of the 1881 census aged 77.  Wonder whether it was a long term illness?

Margaret's death registered March 1884 Preston volume 8e page 421 she was aged 80.

It certainly was a long illness.....13 years!  I can only assume the hospital performed the same function as an old folk's home today....perhaps she'd had a bad stroke and needed care.
I wonder if Laneast is meant to read Lancaster re: Wm?
Many thanks Wendy.
