Liz I think everyone in the world has an ancestor from Scotland  ;D
Enjoy the books when you find them.

It's no good, Gary, I can't find the books on Newcastle.
I have just had my son on the phone (from Prague) talking me through updating my anti virus, so you may deduce that finding my way around the computer is not one of my strong points! ::)
If you could give some instructions. . . . . . . . . . .
Liz

Hi Liz

The best way I have found to search the site is to go to the home page http://www.archive.org/index.php and in the search box at the top of the page type in Northumberland history in the drop down box next to it choose texts and hit go. You should now have a page with lots of books listed. You can not download any book that has been digitized by google ( you can read them online ). Just click on a book that takes your fancy. For speed you can download it in full text and have a quick look through it before you download the PDF. Just vary the search for other books eg Durham history, Newcastle history etc. or if you are feeling brave just type in Northumberland and hit go and be prepared to spend the rest of the evening looking at these often fascinating books.
Good Luck

Gary

PS these are 2 of my favorite books. http://www.archive.org/details/localrecordsorhi01sykeuoft
