Mary Roberts
« on: Tuesday 29 September 09 20:54 BST (UK) »
Hello,
My great aunt Mary Roberts was born in Hawarden, her parents were Charles Roberts and Sarah Ann Iball. She was born in 1894 and was a school teacher in Hawarden and never married.
I am trying to find out which school she taught at and dates, in the 1911 census she is described as being in school and teaching part time.

Also, Mary's youngest brother Joseph born 1897-1898 is proving difficult to find, any info would be greatly appreciated.

regards,
Gaynor

Hi Gaynor,

There is Joseph Roberts aged 3 born abt 1898, living in Moore Lane, Hawarden with Charles Roberts 34 Head, Sarah Ann 40 Wife, Mary (On the record, age is shown as 14, but on original view age is scribbled out, and it could have been 7) Dau, Edward 5 Son, Joseph 3 Son, Mary Roberts 73, Mother, Widow-
l901 Wales Census, wonder if it is your Joseph.

Hello Gaynor,

I think the only source for school records will be in the Flintshire Record Office. That presumes Mary Roberts taught in Flintshire, though it is probable, she is near enough to Chester to have taught there.

You would need to search through these if they are available there. A call to them on 01244 532364, or message, should give you an idea of what they have. It is possible they hold the staff records of Alyn and Deeside District Council which covered Hawarden previously. I am not sure of dates however.

Jo

I Jo,
Thanks for the info, I do believe that Mary taught in Hawarden or Mancot. Thanks for the phone number, I will give them a call.

Hi Janey2,
That will be Joseph, his brother Edward was my Grandfather. Mary was the eldest and was more likely to be 7 rather than 14 and the family did live n Moor Lane.

Thanks
