John DICKMAN

Have only recently learned more of this branch of my family.  My great grandfather was JOHN DICKMAN, who married ANN LOVELOCK-EYLES in Pewsey in 1840.  John and Ann had 8 children, and in  1855,  sadly, on way to Australia, Ann died and was buried at sea.  1856, John married Ann's sister Jane LOVELOCK, in Adelaide, South Australia,  They also had 8 children, the 4th being Anna Elizabeth, my grandmother.  Anything I can learn about either the DICKMAN or LOVELOCK  families would be great.

Have you got the marraige cert (1840)
That would be the first thing to do, as would hopefully give both their father's names and occupations

Have you found John and Ann on the 1841/1851 censuses before they went to Australia? If not, just shout and I will look.

Thanks for you reply.  A second cousin twce removed, whom I have only recently had contact with, has given me lots of details, but she hasn't got the marriage certificate, so I will send off for that.  Thanks for the ref. details.   Also can I please "yell" all the way from Australia, and ask you to look at the census records for me.

As Liz has mentioned the first step will be to get a copy of the marriage certificate to ascertain their fathers names. Liz has provided the details.

IF this is the correct family it appears you would be needing to look at the parish registers for Pewsey and Wilcot

I see I have some work to do in the days ahead, but it will be interesting.  What a pity this genealogy business is not as easy as it appears to be on "Who do you think you are?', but I will keep plodding along, with the help of my friends. whom I have met on Rootschat.
