Orphanages in Kent
« on: Monday 28 September 09 21:11 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Would anybody be able to tell me how i would get access to records of orphanages in Kent. I cannot find William and John Coppock b 1818 and 1821 in Chatham, their father died in chatham in 1821, their mother moved back to South Shields and remarried in 1822, i have found their elder son with her but not the two youngsters. Can anyone help :-)
Thanks
Sharon.

Do they appear on later census(es) at all?

Pauline

No Pauline the two boys dont their  mother (my 5th x g grandmother) remarried the next year and had more children which showed on the later census, her eldest son  Edward is also shown but not the 2 boys who were born in Chatham, very frustrating.
regards
Sharon.

Hi all,

I'm having similar problems trying to find any details on St Peter's Orphanage & Convalescent Home in Kent. I know my ancestor was there due to a census record in 1891 after she lost her parents. However I'd really like to know when she left and general details about her time there.

Has anyone any idea where I can start to find these kind of records should they still exist?

Kind regards
Matt Ellis
