Location Currawong, Bogan River NSW
« on: Monday 28 September 09 08:53 BST (UK) »
Hi
I'm trying to find the location Currawong or Currawang, Bogan River NSW 1865.
This is noted as the residence of a couple on their Marriage Certificate.
They may have been in the employ of  a John Smith at the time 1865.

Regards
Steve

Hi

The Bogan river services the town of Nyngan which is located in the central west of NSW. The Bogan river starts near Forbes and flows north west to Nyngan.

There is a town called Currarong and it is a quiet coastal village located 33 km south-east of Nowra .

If you could post the names of the people you are researching I will have a look on our BDM records to see if I can pinpoint the town for you.

Kind regards,
Inkabay

Hi

I'm interested in marriage that  took place at Molong which is between Orange and Parkes (known as Currajong and Bushmans until it took on the name of Parkes after Sir Henry Parkes visited the area)
Early squatters has a selection Burrawang that went from west of Parkes towards Condoblin. The Hamlet of Bogan Gate.was on the eastern entry to the property. I have just checked in book "Gateway to the Bogan" and found a reference to  John Smith who lived at Gamboola, Molong buying Burrawang Station in 1846.
The Bogan River starts north of Bogan Gate.
Interested in Joseph Nicholson(Nichols)(Stock keeper) married Anne (Eleanor, Hannah) Grady 1865
John Smith and his Wife witnessed the Marriage and the certificate appears to be in the hand of John Smith with all party signing with a cross that all look the same the only signatures being John Smith and G.A.C. Innes Officiating Minister.
Regards
Steve

Have you tried to locate the original 'Station Records or Pay Diaries from Burrawang Station or contacted the Forbes/Parkes family history groups?

Kind regards,
Inkah Bay.

Steve,
Gamboola is a property just east of Molong on the Mitchell Hwy to Orange.
You are right about Burrawang station west of Parkes. Here is a link to the website which may help. http://www.burrawangwest.com.au/index.php
Molong is about 80kms from Parkes.

There also was a property called Burrawong which is near Cumnock. Often they got mixed up with each other. Cumnock is 20kms northwest of Molong.

On the certificate does it say Molong? This would mean it was registered in Molong but could have taken place in the smaller centres around Molong. If they were married in Burrawang (Bogan Gate) it would be registered in Parkes or Condobolin usually. Maybe it was Burrawong near Cumnock not Burrawang near Bogan Gate?

Here is some info on Burrawong, Cumnock. I hope this helps.

Have you looked at the historic Parish Maps that are available online and/or at the NSW SRO ?  The parish would be ASHBURNHAM and I think there would be pastoral maps also available.    http://www.lpma.nsw.gov.au/mapping_and_imagery/parish_maps

Also at the National Library of Australia's online catalogue : Parkes, N.S.W. : Parkes Family History Group, 1988. 2 v. (vii, 169; vii, 173 p.) : maps ; 33 cm.  Parkes & Forbes pioneer register of local families pre 1900 / compiled by Lesley Crowe
