I have alot of info on descendents of Mat O'Brien and Mary Daly - my great great grandparents, it seems to tally with your info in some ways, but also seems to contradict...

they had a son called Mat O'Brien born in Meath in 1875, maybe this is where the lines cross??

my info is as follows:

from familysearch we have following children born to Mat O'Brien and Mary Daly

Philip – Bailieborough, Cavan – 13 Feb 1867.

Patrick – Bailieborough, Cavan – 13 Mar 1868.

Thomas – Ratoath, Meath –26 Feb 1872.

Mathew – Ratoath- 18 Apr 1875.

James – Fairyhouse – 14 Nov 1878.

Maria – Fairyhouse – 17 Jan 1881.

The O'Briens moved to Killeigh sometime before 1901 census. in 1901 census, Mary is a widow living with children Anne, Thomas, John & James http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/King_s_Co_/Killeigh/Ballinvalley/1469401/

Another son, Patrick lives nearby
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/King_s_Co_/Killeigh/Gorteen/1469470/
Patrick's marriage certificate in 1893 confirms that his parents are Mat O'Brien and Mary Daly and the family were living in Killeigh at this time.

Mary's death in 1911 shows the informant was Teresa O'Brien, daughter

Hi
There seems to be a main connection. Teresa O'Brien married Daniel Bushe (RIC) in Dublin in 1916. she had a witness sister Mary K O'Brien. On the marriage certificate Matthew and Mary are shown as deceased. There was another sister Annie Marie O'Brien who married  John Joseph Larrigy in Dublin in 1910. On Annie (born 1882) marriage certificate  it says that her parents were Matthew and Mary O'Brien of Killeigh and that Matthew was a Farmer but on  Teresa's marriage Certificate of 1916 Matthew was listed as Policeman but I believe this was a mistake and it was Daniel that was the Policeman.Annie before she married was living at 20 Leeson Park Avenue with Bridget O'Brien ( Auntie ) and brother William(aged 22) as shown on 1911 census. I have a a birth certificate for a Teresa born 15 June 1885 to a Mathew and Mary Brien nee Daly in Killeigh and a Baptismal certificate for Teresa born 15 June 1885 to Mathew and Mary Daly...so one of the same. The problem is according to Teresa death certificate she would have been born in 1894 and died in 1928 aged 34 years. I have had problems with the O'Brien side with different dates ...different counties  of birth on census. Teresa is shown as being born in Kings County on her husbands police records where as Annie and Mary say they were born in County Meath on census living in Auburn Street Dublin.Looking forward to hearing from you when you have worked your way through this.

Phil

Phil
Good to hear from you.
I agree that there must be a mistake on Teresa marriage certificate and that its her husband, not her father that is the policeman.
As regards dates not tallying, this happens alot with the Irish census. And also with a family of 10 kids (Philip, Patrick, Thomas, Matthew, James, Maria, Teresa, Mary K, Annie Marie and William) moving from Bailieborough in Cavan to Ratoath and then Fairyhouse in Meath and then finally to Killeigh in Offaly, its not surprising that there is confusion over dates of birth!
Would you mind listing the dates and place of birth for Teresa, Mary K, Annie Marie and William
If you are wondering who Matthew might have favored in his will you will see that he left £82 to Annie Larrigy when he died in 1894

Hi Orla (and Phil)

OK, I am up to speed ( a bit HA) now !

I see that Matthew was a herd - which of course explains the moving around.

I note Orla that you say that Matthew 'favoured' Anne - HA HUM I'm not sure that I'd agree with that - he died in 1894 YET Anne 'got' money in 1911 - a world of a difference - sounds like there must have been a dispute in the interim.
