argh help please...
« on: Friday 25 September 09 12:06 BST (UK) »
i'm totally stuck and ANY help, links ANYTHING would be very very much appreciated-i just don't know where to start-other than google and ancestry and both of those are throwing up nothing :(

Right *deep breath* my half auntie is looking for information on her father...my nan has told be a few things but she's old so i'm not sure...it's taken here 50 odd years to tell us so i'm going on this(we have a very disjointed family ::) )

my aunt was born (i think!) in 1952, her fathers name is Tony O'Brien he was born in Ireland, apparently ???
He was allegedly a 'big band' member...nan seems to recall he was a singer...and went by the name Tony Hill.

she knows NOTHING else...well anything that she is willing to share anyway...i've tried looking for Anthonys instead of tonys but nothing...any one know anything about the big bands of this time?

any guidance AT ALL is appreciated...i don't even know how old he was :( my nan was about 19.
thanks loads in advance :)

Hi Kneller,
we have to tread very carefully here as not to mention anybody who is living(rootschat policy)
We do not need to mention your half aunty by name but from were I am looking she has to obtain a copy of her birth certificate.
you have your aunts name, gran,s name pos date of birth and place of birth and fathers name so it should be relatively straight forward.
Always best to go backwards from you and I recon aunty,s birth certificate is the next step.
Regards,Billy.

You should be able to find you aunts birth reference on the search engine you are using - this would give you a mothers maiden name and birth certificate and then you could narrow down a possible marriage certificare to look at...or was the faimily a bit more complicated than that???  :)

"she knows NOTHING else...well anything that she is willing to share anyway..."

Well, it sounds as though she's not that desperate to find out ?
