Chapman/Sutcliffe marriage lookup please.
« on: Thursday 24 September 09 14:17 BST (UK) »
Could someone please lookup a marriage between Walter Guy Chapman and Mai Marguerite Sutcliffe?   They were married on 24th October 19_  _ at the Wesleyan Chapel in St Helier.   Believed to be about 1915 but we do not have the actual year.
Many thanks - Sue.

Hi Sue

The index entry to allow you to order a certificate is:

St Helier Registrar Marriages, Sept 1911 to Dec 1914, page 39. Both GC and MMS are on the same page.

Stewart - thanks so much for your prompt reply.  My sister in law has ben chasing this info. for ages.   Can I ask another favour?   Can you check for the birth of Aubrey Walker Chapman - believed to be 5 Aug 1920.   Walter Guy Chapman and Mai M Sutcliffe should be listed as his parents.
Sue.

Hi Sue

No luck re Aubrey I'm afraid. There are only 3 Chapman births between 1916 and 1922 in St Helier and none have the right parents.

Thank you for trying.   Would any of the other three be to Walter Guys siblings?

Hi Sue

I'm sorry but I didn't note the details. What I can remember though is all the parents were different, none of the children belonged to Walter, and one child was illegitimate.

I would be grateful if you could check up on the births, as there is some mystery surrounding Aubrey Chapman d.o.b. reputed to be 5 Aug 1920.   We can't find him on any of the birth records and rumour has it he could have been illegitimate!
Regards - Sue

Hi Sue

Yes it's no problem to look again.

What I do recall is that I saw an Audrey Chapman in the index but discounted it as the sex was wrong and the middle name didn't match. I think this may have been the illegitimate child. It could be that it has been transposed incorrectly.

I can't look again until Tuesday and then I have to fit in a Registry Office visit (around the weddings!!).

Bear with me. This will teach me to keep my notes until the subject is closed.

Stewart - just to let you know that thanks to your help and provision of record numbers, my sister in law has now managed to get a copy of her Grandfathers marriage certificate.   THANK YOU.
Do you know if Jersey keeps electoral lists as we are interested in when Walter left the island and who with?
