I am trying to trace a Claude Gabriel Wilson who was a prison officer in Hong Kong in the 1950's. He was born in Ireland. Does anyone know how I can view BMD records online from Hong Kong?

have you looked at the overseas birth indexes on findmypast.com?

(If he is there then just order the certiifcate from the GRO as normal)
James Stott c1775-1850. James was born in Yorkshire but where? He was a stonemason and married Elizabeth Archer (nee Nicholson) in 1794 at Ripon. They lived thereafter in Masham. If anyone has any suggestions or leads as to his birthplace I would be interested to know. I have searched for it for years without success. Thank you.

My parents were married in Hong Kong or Kowloon (they were living there) in 1953.
I contacted the Dutch consulate who forwarded my email to the relevant document centre. They advised me that they had the details and it would cost Australian $180 which I think is rather expensive. No information forthcoming unless you pay for it.

Hi Aylala,
$180 Aus  is obscene for a marriage cert- or any type of cert for that matter.  :o :o :o

The Indexes are NOT made public.  They do exist but you will need to pay for a search and, if the entry is found, you will then need to pay for a certified copy of the certificate.   You will find a link in the HK Government web page:
http://www.gov.hk/en/residents/immigration/bdmreg/applybdm.htm

This details the types of search which can be made, together with costs of both search and certified copies.  You will then need to enter into correspondence on how to get the certificate to you because their system is set up for the “personal collection” only.  It IS possible to have it posted to you but this is not within the automated online system.  You will need to be prepared for a wait of up to 3 months for your certificate to arrive.

If he was an Irish National, he may not appear in the GRO overseas registers, they usually only cover those born in England & Wales.
