Parish Church lookup - Great Saling

In fairness to Essex Record Office they are gradually digitalising the hundreds of parish registers they hold - its a very big county and this takes time and cash. They have started with the earliest registers and seem to be working their way through so for most registers they haven't yet reached the late C18th. The fact they are doing this and placing the registers online for free puts them way ahead of most record offices who haven't done deals with subscription websites.

Hi Valda,

I agree with your comments entirely, I have nothing but admiration for the ERO and staff.  Since coming to Australia I've made around 11 trips back to the UK and of course each time have visited the ERO, in all those times I have never failed to be impressed by their help and courtesy, they really are a great bunch of people.

The ERO certainly lead the way with their thinking, people like myself who cannot access the ERO easily really appreciate having PRs online, the fact that it is also free to access them is the icing on the cake

By the way a couple or more months ago I was advised by one of the staff that they hoped to have the latter year PRs online in around a year's time.
