Look up needed for a James Thomson a wright in Denny Sterlingshire
« on: Monday 21 September 09 11:52 BST (UK) »
I need help. I am begging for a MI look up PLEASE ;D. Can someone find a James Thomson, buried in Denny, Sterlingshire, sometime before 1825 for me?

I have found on Scottish census, Isobel Tait (ms Thomson,) b 1806c Denny Sterlingshire Scotland. I can't find a Bapt record for her, so this date is still a circa. From her marriage OPR in 1824, Edinburgh, I know Isobel was the daughter of a James Thomson (deceased) occupation, a wright in Denny.  From her death cert, her parents' names were given as ------- Thomson and Jane Mathie.

I can find nothing on this James Thomson and Jane/Jean Mathie. Having checked all Thomson children, b in Denny from 1750 -1810 on SP, I began to wonder if the surname Mathie, was given by mistake, on the death cert. I have found one couple having children in the correct period in Denny....a James Thomson and Jean Boag (all variants on the Boag.) Having followed several of their children, I know this James Thomson was a shoemaker, not a wright. So, I am still looking at an ugly brick wall. I am wondering if some kind person has a book of MIs for Denny and would check if they can find a James Thomson, buried with Jane/Jean (Mathie) please.

If you haven't already done so, take a look at this site for MI's - I've been very successful finding lots of mine.

Hi Lenagh,
Many thanks for your reply and this link. It is a new site for me. I couldn't find anything in terms of my James Thomson and Jane Mathie from Denny... But it does give access to other cemetaries around Scotland. All in all, an important link, for those of us hunting graves of our Scottish ancestors.
