Lost my CD for my hp 3 in 1 Printer
« on: Saturday 19 September 09 15:59 BST (UK) »
Hello, I wonder if anyone could give me some advice.  I recently had a virus worm its way into my pc.  I finally had to have new drivers and I am busy reinstating many things.

My biggest problem is that search as I have, I cannot trace the CD that came with my printer cum photocopier cum scanner, hp 1215.  I did find a CD but it was for 1200 and I tried that but it did not work.

I lost all my pictures of course and now need to scan what I have and I did still have many snaps in my camera fortunately.

I guess I need to make sure I remove the download CD that I tried and hunt for a source to connect my hp all in one to my computer.

Any advice anyone is able to give me would be most gratefully received.  Ann

WOW 'Hat, that was soooooooooo fast.  Thank you so very much for the URL.  I am truly grateful to you for that and I will get cracking on that.

How we take our computers and printers forgranted when they are working well.  My PC has been out of action since the end of August and I have been in despair.  Then to search for two days for that CD without success was the last straw.

Thank you so much, Ann

I hate giving advice, 'cos I'm no expert, but do yourself a favour and back up your photo's and stuff, in case it happens again.  ;) :)

'Hat.

In theory you do not need a CD at all.  Microsoft will supply all the drivers you need to scan and print.

Just click on Scanners and Cameras in Control Panel and you should see your scanner listed (if the power is turned on).  Right click the scanner name and select the scanner wizard.

Most hardware devices do not actually require an installation CD any more.  Most of what comes on a CD is some extra or trial programs such as photoshop style programs and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software.  Either Microsoft already include the driver(s) in their vast database or it/they can be downloaded from the Internet.

Thanks, I will try that as I went to the website you gave but the only two options they finally gave me for download was USA or Canada.

I will try your way tomorrow.   Been up since 7 am trying to retrieve and transfer from one pc to my main one and without success until it dawned on me that I could use my main pc to log into the different ISP and transfer all the data that way... well, Emails, not worked out how to transfer the files on dial up and a stupid service that cuts me off as soon as I get in! 'Hat, I went into control panel which now is nothing like it was before I had new drivers after my crash.  I got the wizard and he wized about and then said .....

Cannot Install this hardware.  The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software (I never offerd software option).
Click back if you have installation media such as a CD-ROM or if you know the location of rthe software.

That wizard is a great help!  LOL, Ann

if no joy

are you running vista? if so try the driver for  Photosmart 7200

To install the driver use the following steps:

Click the ‘Start’ Icon, and select ‘Control Panel’ in the start menu.
Once the Control Panel window opens, double-click the ‘Printers’ icon.
In the ‘Printers’ window, click the ‘Add a printer’ icon/link in the top menu bar.
In the ‘Add Printer’ dialog window, select ‘Local Printer’ and ‘Next’.
When asked to ‘Choose a Printer Port’, select ‘Use an existing port’ and click on the ‘USB001 (virtual printer port for USB)’ item in the list. Then click Next.
On the following page, select ‘HP’ or ‘Hewlett Packard’ in the left pane, and find ‘Photosmart 7200′ in the list on the right.
IMPORTANT: Plug in the Printer now, if it’s not already plugged in, and switch it on.
Click ‘next’ and then print a test page
