James Henderson research

Searching for information--Henderson
I am early in my research on James Sneddon Henderson.  I have very few clues to follow.  He was born in 1870 I think in Edinburgh and died in Rose Twp., Carroll Co., Ohio, USA.  He died of black lung, which gives me miner as an occupation.  He was married to Helen Muircroft.  They had 6 children and one on the way when they took a ship to America I think in 1912.  His father (I am assuming because it seems to fit) was James Henderson born 1835 in Coldstream, Scotland.  This James was married to Claudean b. 1835 Dunbar, Scotland.  The 1881 Census lists a grandmother living with them, Margeret Home b. 1803 Leith, Scotland, and M-I-L Catherine Stuart b. 1815 Jamaica.  Does any of this ring a bell with anyone?  Would appreciate any push in direction.  Thank you.
Henderson, Muircroft, Cairns, Sneddon, Downing

Hi

Welcome to Rootschat  :)

I'm not related to them, just trying to help you  :)

From the marriage cert of 1900 (Bellshill, Lanarkshire), James'  parents were James Henderson, coalminer, deceased, and Catherine, maiden surname, Sneddon.

The parents' marriage in 1860 (Boness, West Lothian) has James's parents as Peter Henderson, horse dealer,  and Margaret Henderson , both deceased, and Catherine's as James Snadan, miner,  and Jane, maiden surname, McLeish.

I'll see if I can find the Margaret Home that you mentioned.

Took me a while to find the family on the 1881 - I was looking in Scotland only. I see they are in Chelsea and James, senior,  is an iron moulder:

RG11/82/77/48

Are you sure that it's the correct family?

James, senior,  is down as  29 on his marriage cert in 1860.

Found your family in the 1861:

Pen Close, Boness, West Lothian  - ED 6 Page 4

Henderson
James, 31, miner, b. Biggar, Lanarkshire
Catherine, 25, b. Alloa, Clackmannanshire
John Snaddon, 21, miner, b. Alloa, Clackmannanshire

I don't think the 1881 family that you've found  are yours.

What a sweetheart you are!!!  I have been so lost as to where to look.  I really appreciate this, now maybe I can get somewhere.  Did you go look up the marriage cert, or how did you find it?  I'm really quite new to this.  I've had a lot of luck here in the states with other branches, but I had more to work with at the start.  If you find anything else in your own search, please keep me in mind.  Are these your people also?  I have a photo of James that is a tin type copy or something.  It is the only photo my m-i-l has of her father.  He died when she was 9.  If this is your people also, I can get it digitized and send it to you.  Thank you again so very much.  I've tried other sites and never had anyone get back to me so fast.  Nancy

Hi Nancy

Your welcome  :)

They're not mine but I saw that you looked a bit lost so I thought I'd give you some leads. I'll PM (personal message)  you so that you can reply to me and I can send you the marriage certs via e-mail.

Regards
