Why was Uncle Joe in Victorian Albany, WA
« on: Wednesday 16 September 09 19:15 BST (UK) »

Hi there

I've posted a photo of my husband's great-great-great Uncle Joe taken in Albany, probably in the 1880's/90's, on the Photo Restoration board. Sometime ago I also posted a group photo to see if anyone knew where it was - the concensus was that it was somewhere in Australia. I'm pretty sure now that the portrait of Uncle Joe has turned up (it conveniently fell out of a book belonging to my mother-in-law) that he's in the centre of the group photo. I just wondered if anybody could shed any more light as to where the group photo may have been taken - ie could it be somewhere near Albany? I'd also be interested for advice on tracking Uncle Joe's movements if possible! We know nothing about him, but now I'm intrigued to try to find out what he was up to in Australia and what happened to him.

Here's the link to the photo restoration board:

Many thanks

Regards

Hi All,
The surname of the wife on the marriage is STUCKEY

I did note that she was a slightly  older bride marrying in 1893 and being recorded as 80 years at her death in 1934.

I wondered if it was possibly a second marriage for her.

I saw these on the WA BIRTHS registrations and thought it may be her in a previous marriage.

STUCKEY, ARTHUR GEORGE CUTHBE father  JAMES  mother HICKS,  SARAH at  ALBANY  reg 1484 year1888

STUCKEY, MABLE ALMA.  father   JAMES. mother HICKS,  SARAH at ALBANY reg.  29299 year 1886.

Hi,
I can't see a marriage in Western  Australia for JAMES STUCKEY & SARAH HICKS, but this in England may be them.

Marriage Sept. 1/4 1879. Kensington. Vol 1a, Pg 224
SARAH HICKS
STUCKEY, JAMES.
