I had wrongly assumed you had a cd for the area, I didn't realise you would have to look through pr's at the archives.  I don't expect you to give valuable time to my search, and find it extremely kind that you offered, but please don't go to too much trouble on my behalf, afterall I've hi-jacked someone elses thread. 

Thanks for your generosity, but I do understand that when you visit the archives it's primarily for your own research.

I've been watching this with interest as so many of my family names and places are there. My Cousins (surname that is) though are from Tinsley. Most of the Hinchcliffes I've been finding are from earlier but seen to come from the Cawthorne, Denby area. Dickinson is a strongly Quaker family and have associations with the Quaker hamlet of High Flats, Denby.

Yes ,Sam mentioned the Quaker connection at High Flatts.

I have not looked into the Cousins family, but I believe Ann Armitage married George Cousins 2 Nov 1807 Silkstone. I think this Ann is the sister of Margaret Armitage who married Israel / Ezra Dickinson.

Any connection ?

My 4xgrandfather John Waring born c. 1776 married Elizabeth Cousins 1801.

John and Elizabeth had two known children: Thomas  baptised Penistone 1801 and Julia bap Penistone 1805.

Elizabeth is on the 1841 census living with her illegitimate son William Cousins, but no sign of John.

John probably died between 1805 - 1837, however as I cannot find evidence of any further children born to the couple - it's likely he died nearer to 1805.  John lived at Hoylandswaine and could be buried in Silkstone or the Penistone area.

This thread is very interesting as we all appear to have the same surnames in our ancestry.  To add to my above info: Julia Waring (mmn Cousins) married George Womersley Armitage

It does get very confusing, there are too many names in my head to get a grip sometimes.

I have just looked at my notes for Silkstone and I see George Armitage = Julia Waring 1829, but I haven't got round to finding out who his father was, maybe never will.

Hi KR,

George W Armitage and Julia Waring are my gggrandparents.  George was from Meltham Mills Huddersfield, his parents were John Armitage born c. 1784 and Hannah Womersley born c. 1786.  Ater their marriage George and Julia lived in Huddersfield.  Julia died 29/11/1849. 

If I can help with anything, please ask.  I have recently purchased the Woolley registers - so if you'd like a look -up, it's no problem.

I seem to be stuck on Richard Armitage. He married Sarah Lockwood 1802 Silkstone.
