I know a few older people from Trinity Methodist Church and Trinity Operatic. If you could give names and dates I could possibly enquire for you.

Thank you Phil,
My gt.uncle was Vincent Hartland (died 1968), and I think he was the pianist for the Society, and also he was the Church organist. They lived in St. Phillip's Avenue, off Church Road.
His wife, my gt.aunt was Maude, nee Johnson, who was leading lady for many years, and also sang in the church choir. I remember seeing her as 'Yum Yum' in The Mikado, and have a couple of photos somewhere of her in costume . She had the musical title of 'Madam', and was billed (theatrically) in her maiden name. She died in about 1988, having been a resident at 'Engelberg' in Ash Hill Compton for many years. (This was a Methodist Care Home). They didn't have any children.
I would be interested in any form of the history of the Society, and of the Church, or any indication of where I could find them? I haven't had a chance yet to find the maps of the Church, but will do so soon.
Off track a little, but is Beckminster Methodist Church still there?

I have enquired of a former member of Trinity Operatic and got this information. They remember Maude as the soprano lead and believe her to have been a singing teacher hence the madame. They think she had left before 1952 when they became members and possibly her last role was in Yeoman of The Guard. I don't have any other information I am afraid.
Engleberg still exists as a home.
Beckminster Church is very active and has a web site.

This web site has a picture of Trinity Church on Compton Road view 150 .The Quarter House, a pub recently demolished. All that is left of the church is the War Memorial in the grounds of some flats.

Thank you yet again Phil,
I've just spent a happy hour browsing through the photos of old 'Wolves'. They have brought back many memories of my childhood and teenage years (I moved away when I was 20). I have been back, but hardly recognise most of it, that ring road certainly wiped a lot out.
My Aunt retired as leading lady at some point, as she told us that her voice was no longer as powerful as when she was younger, but I think she remained with the chorus for a while. She died at Engelberg, aged 92.
I have copied the photo of Trinity Church (hope I'm allowed), to 'round out' all the information I have in my tree.
Many thanks again, giraffe

Dudley, Giraffe or Willow

Sorry to butt in but I am researching my wife's family who came from Blackhalve Farm, Wednesfield and stumbled across this topic.

My wife's grandparents John Beech and Clara Lily Smith were married ion 4th September 1924 in the "Parish Church according to the Rites and Ceremonies of the Established Church" before emigrating to Tasmania.

I note Dudley's reference to the "Established Church" but don't understand what it means.  Can you help me with this?
