Hi Zephyr   I have two photos or is it had of Henry Ackerman's family, appears to be their golden wedding going by the big cake in front.  I said maybe had as so much has disappeared or still in that heap that needs attention, though dried up paint from squashed tubes makes it somewhat difficult.  If I find them I'll send copies to your sister to forward onto you.  Your sister has my email address. There is a lady in England who I have had contact with who has discovered our Ackermans here in  NZ are (we are)  related to, share the same number of greats grandfather.  Will also  look to see if I can find the info she sent over.   Has anyone taken a photo of the Ackerman residence i.e. Henry's family?   Would love a copy.  Bellbird

It appears there are a number of Ackerman branches Henry is one of mine and a lady in England has found her branch and my branch share the same number of greats in England.  They were unaware of Ackermans leaving England so were surprised to learn two did.  There is quite alot of info on my site so feel free to use it in your research if you find any of it helps you.  Not sure which side of the world you come from, I and two others on my page are kiwis.  Bellbird

Good Morning Bellbird
Been reading through a lot of your posts and believe I am a descendant of the Ackerman family in NZ.  My Great grand mother was Charlotte Ackerman and her father was Henrick (Henry) Emil Ackerman.  There seems to be a few versions of the family history, does this seem to match yours?  I have a photo of Henry's grave and records of their children (9) that I see to have found.  If this sounds like the family you are looking for I would love to swap stories and photos.

Upon reading later posts it appears I must be from another Ackerman family, although my great great grand parents were Henry & Susannah there is no mention of a daughter Jane. Have Henry as born 1853 in Germany. Susannah was burned to death in a fire at a private hospital and my great grand mother Charlotte was in a institution till her death also so it appears that our family had similar traits to your side. So much information out there, it just take so much time to decipher which is correct.

Hi Moxie211,
Your Ackerman is a different family to our Henry & Susan Elizabeth Ackerman. I believe Henry Emil & Susannah resided in Wellington whereas ours lived in the Wairarapa after emigrating from England.
Good luck with your research.

Hi, I have read with interest the various post son the Ackerman's- I am researching some WW1 medals I have in my collection and one is to a William Thomas Ackerman service number 62220, he was the son of Henry Emil and Susan Ackerman, on his WW1 attestation papers he state his father is Danish (?).  He was born 12/4/1888 in Christchurch- he was a shop assistant and married to a Dorothy Ackerman nee Clark.

I would appreciate any assistance on this chap, here is a very interesting WW1 story on his service that I am happy to share if anyone is interested.

If anyone would like a copy of a photo of his medal again I am happy to provide that.

Best wishes for 2015,

Regards,

Tony Beard, Christchurch

William Thomas ACKERMAN ... continued :

The following Divorce file is held at Archives New Zealand, Christchurch office.

ACKERMAN - Dorothy Valentine Ion  v.   ACKERMAN - William Thomas - Year:   1928

PaperPast - (NZ historical newspapers - online)
http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz

If you use the search term "William Thomas ACKERMAN", you'll find articles in newspapers relating to mainly Court appearances for this person.  [Note:  In some instances this man's age is given and though it doesn't always equate to a birth year of 1888, my feeling is that it very probably is the W.T. ACKERMAN you are seeking. ]

NZ Death

1928 / 5244 - ACKERMAN - William Thomas - 37 years   [bc 1891 ]

Burial at :    Porirua Cemetery, Wellington  >
