They can run a check for you - just like the UK certs. I think you pay your £7 and if it's not him, on checking, they'll reimburse you £4.

Eleven and seven can sound very similar.

Hi Gadget, I went to a Family History Fair and they suggested the British Library - so which would be better the National Archives or the British Library? I think the British Library would be easier to get too (on the train line up to London).
I emailed the British Library and they said that his details are on microfilm N/3/106/26 Birth and N/3/161/36 for the marriage so they must have the information but they charge £18 per cert! I think I will go up and maybe write the information down!!

That seems a very sensible idea if you are fairly close to London  :)

Hi I went to London and this is what I found:-

Cyril Arthur CLARKE born 8 Jun 1911
Bapt. 12 Jul 1911
Father Frank CLARKE
Mother Helen Edith
Born Kirkee Trade of Father Engineer.

Marriage record

29 Apr 1939 St Thomas Cathedral Bombay
Cyril Arthur CLARKE (30) and Winifred Annie SMITH (34)
Occupation Press Manager (Cyril) Bombay Residencey
Father Frank Clarke (Cyril)
Father Robert Flower Smith (dec.) (Winifred)
Banns
Witness May Howlden, Alfred Edward Bryant, Donald Smith (her brother)
Ceremony performed by Senior Presidency chaplain.

If anyone can help I would be very grateful.  Looked on LDS and Free BMD but cant find either a Frank Clarke or Robert Flower Smith
Whilst there I did check to see if they were born in India but couldnt see them!! Thanks
