Hetton Le Hole Pub

Has anybody got any info on the Davie Inn Hetton. My gg grandparents
ran this pub in the 1861 census

In the 1851 Directory there is  the "Davy Lamp" in Easington Lane. It was still there in the 1890 Directory, and in 1914 it is listed in Hetton-le-Hole at 140 Brickgarth.
If you go to http://gis.durham.gov.uk/website/interMAP/viewer.htm and enter the post code DH50LA in to search you can see the position of the inn on the 1894-1899 map.

Thanks that is the one in the 1861 census address is brickgarth
Sorry to be a bother but in the 1851 directory that you mentioned did it say who the landlord was then, as i can't find my rels on that census.
They are Joseph and Ann Bainbridge
Not sure if Joseph has died as he had in by the 1861 census.

Hi Cilla,
In 1851 it was William Straughan, and in 1858 J. Bainbridge. There are deaths for a Joseph Bainbridge registered in the Mar ¼ 1859 Houghton-le-Spring, and Sep ¼ 1858 Durham.

Someone kindly looked in the 1851 census for me to find my ancestor John Cramm (usually spelt Cram) as publican and coal miner, Public House, Brickgarth, Easington Lane.  Along with his wife Sarah and 7 children.  I didn't get any information about which pub though.

Actually transcribed as John Crawin on Ancestry, the name of the Public House is not given.

Thanks Stan, I guess the writing on the form was not very clear and the mistranscription explains why I wasn't able to find it myself.  It's definitely the right family though, as John Cram his wife and their older children are in the 1841 census too, but he is a full-time miner and not a part-time publican then.
