John and Edward Foley - Bennetsbridge 1911 census
« on: Saturday 12 September 09 10:11 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with details of the families of John and Edward Foley who were living in Bennetsbridge during the 1911 census. In particular marriages, deaths and children other than listed below would be appreciated.

John was 79 and "infantry pensioner". Edward was 77 a widower and a farmer. Also living in the house were Edwards daughters Annie and Teresa, 36 and 38 respectively.

I an not certain that there are any further children of Edward .. he has written  'two' under the children still alive section of the form, but nothing in the number of children born. His marriage would seem to have been before civil registration - i.e. about 1863. From what I can see on the civil index Teresa was actually born in 1870 (Thomastown district) so would be 41.. so the ages may be slightly out..

maybe the place to start would be to look for a birth index for Teresa or Annie ?- if you dont already have these.. once you know the mothers name you could search for her death.

I dont see any promising marriage details in Co. Kilkenny for Teresa on the Civil index, but there are a number of possible matches for Annie if she married - see :

Thanks for that. Is there an online govt site for ordering cert copies?

Noticed you have Cantwell in your name list. I have Mary Cantwell married and died in Australia. Parents given as James and Mary Costello but the death cert only says Ireland, so I have no county details

you can order certs by post from the GRO using the index details from the familysearch site - their website is www.groireland.ie

the details they requires are name, record type (e.g. marriage, birth etc), registration district, year/quarter, volume and page. The other details are LDS/familysearch references and are not required to order a cert.

My Cantwell line is a bit of a brick wall at the moment - a gg-grandmother is Sarah Cantwell born c1830 in Co. Wicklow.. but I cant find her birth, so I have not been able to go any further. The closest I have found so far is a Cantwell family owning land quite near to my Fitzsimon family - but have found no definite links yet. Strangely there are absolutely no Cantwell's listed on Co. Wicklow on the 1911 census..

Hi there,

I am not completely certain but I believe Annie Foley married George Rainsford from Castlecomer. I am not sure when.
However I do believe their marriage to be between 1915 to 1921.

Marriage entry on the Civil Registration Index at familysearch.org for
George Rainsford Castlecomer District Oct Dec 1919 vol 3 p 367 with a match for Annie Foley. Could be the correct marriage cert.

Hi there, YES that sounds totally plausible now.
I checked out their marriage and they match up with the records.

The only thing I can not find is the year Annie Foley died. I know George Rainsford , her husband died in 1939.

A marriage date of 1919 puts Annie at 47 when married (born 1872). Does this align to the date on her marriage cert or align to Georges approx birth year?

Hi there,
I had a look and yes it does. I think some versions are different.
However this is certainly a match. The records match, and the age match.

I haven't been able to find out when she died ! Any help with that would be appreciated.
