UK Lifeguards (RNLI) info?
« on: Friday 11 September 09 21:10 BST (UK) »
Does anybody know if records are kept for members of the RNLI going back to the 1800's? I haven't been able to get a response from the RNLI, so I was wondering if anybody has been down this road before. Specifically I am looking for information on New Brighton station members.

Thanks!
-Ryan

Have you tried contacting the local station there?  There is usually some history in the boathouse itself, together with names of past crew.  Try looking at the website - contact details included.

There is an archivist for the NB station but I can't remember his name off hand. Will try and look him up and let you know.  My ancestors were members of the NB crew going way back. I understand a lot of the original documents were "lost" when they replaced the big boat with an inshore one. Caused a few arguments and someone took the ball home so to speak.

There is someone you could ring and ask for the contact details.  PM me for his phone number

Sorry mod but it was given on the lifeboat website as a contact number and is not a home number but the station one.

Meant to add to the OP that my avatar photo is my grandmother collecting on behalf of the RNLI in about 1900 at New Brighton.
