Hi there,  I have lots of information about the Irish Eppleston (Appleston) family having researched the 'boys' that fought in WW1 as part of the centenary.  I'm also trying to establish whether they are related to me/my family given how unique our surname is.  In response to your original query Margaret married in 1911 and must've remarried in 1917.  I would love to share findings if you're interested.  It is available via www.ancestry.co.uk in the Irish Eppleston tree, my own is the Eppleston tree, both of which should be public

Julie, good to hear from you and apologies for taking so long to reply.  Does a Hannah Darragh feature anywhere in your research?

Hi,
Wonder if this helps. 18 Nov 1915 Robert Eppleston married Hannah Darragh in St. Annes Church of Ireland, Shankill, Belfast. The fathers' names were William Eppleston and Henry Darragh.

Hi there, as others have suggested, it would appear that Hannah married Robert in 1915, sadly I have no further information on Hannah other than that.  My initial interest in the family (aside from sharing the same surname) was to understand more about their military history and their family composition/life around the time of WW1.  Interestingly Robert's Service record suggests that he was unfit to serve as a solider and was discharged soon after enlistment toward the end 1914.  I'm left wondering what he was really like.  I'm struggling to find details of William Eppleston / Appleston's birth and therefore parentage from 1850's.  Records suggest he was born in Stone (or Stoke) Staffordshire and was English rather than Irish.  Any help in this regard would be very much welcomed

Robert's 1915 marriage lists father as William (the actual certificate will give Robert's residence as well as his father's occupation amongst other details). Possibly the family in 1911 (in which case father William born England but son Robert in Belfast)-

same family in 1901-

Julie

William, a bachelor aged 30, married Mary Hunter on 29/08/1881 at St. Annes C of I.  His occupation is CPL 19th Regiment of Foot and address as Barracks Belfast.   Williams father is also William.  Mary's father James, a farmer.

As you know he was born in England and as a soldier this would explain how he came to be in Ireland.  His army pension records should be available and possibly his enlistement records.

Hannah looks as though she is to remain a mystery for now

Kings, thanks for the info
