thanks for that. At least it has cleared  up one mystery.
Ann died in a house fire in Adelaide in 1916 (changed-now probably 1918) and from family rumour it seems George was considered as having murdered her. We think he was deported but no proof. I am having a lot of trouble finding out much about him. .Your help is really appreciated.

hi if its any help I think Geoge's parents were John Ward  born abt 1842 in Selby and Elizabeth Hobman born abt march 1845.
George had brothers Arthur born 1874, John born 1866, sisters Annie born 1881 and  Lucy born 1888.
Probably all born in Selby.
George was apparently born 1868 birth reg. 30 Aug 1882 (aged 14) a miller at Kyme St York. Thats about the extent of my knowledge of them.

Terri, have you ever been able to get a copy of Ann's death certificate to see what it said.  I'm not familiar with Sth Australia Archives.  I know we can get the Victorian Archives online here. If you were able to get that, it would maybe help to see whether there was a Coroner's report.  Just a thought.

You are so good!!!. Anne was buried at North Road Cemetery in Nailsworth, Adelaide on 25 January 1918. But she was buried as Ann Drury, not Ward.
South Australia is really hard to get records from - the rest of Aust is quite easy.
There was probably a  coronial inquest which may be mentioned in The Advertiser or the Register of the time but I am having difficulty there also.
Thank you so much for your help so far. I think I may have to go to Sth Australia myself to find out. (about 2000km away by car.)

There is no death registration in South Australia for Ann/e/ie WARD wife of George WARD in 1916.  My interest in your quest was sparked as 1916 is the year of death for one of my OH/s South Australian WARD ancestors - Anne WARD wife of John Thomas.

I see you are now saying 1918 :-\

It is certainly not difficult to obtain records from SA.  You can purchase transcriptions of death certs from SAGHS and another source.

Cheers

There is no death registration for Ann/e WARD wife of George WARD in 1918 or for an Ann/e DRURY in South Australia.

Have you searched the online newspapers for the period which include the Advertiser
http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/home

No headstone at North Road Cemetery under WARD or DRURY so in an unmarked grave :-\

Hi cando- do you think your Wards may be interacted with mine?
Things are getting more interesting and more complicated by the minute.
Most of my info has come from family rumour so i am really struggling here.
