Hi Jackie,

The Rolls Royce factory is in Hillington and was there in the 1940's.

Have a look at the Evening Times  online and there is an interesting article about how 'Glasgow became the Engine Room of War'.  It is a recent article and was only published 27 August this year.

Hi Jackie

About 5 miles straight down the Paisley Road.  There would have been plenty trams.

I'm looking forward to checking out the newspaper article too. My mother worked at the Rolls Royce factory during WW II. She told me (and it check;s out) that Gordon Jackson, the actor, worked there too as a draughtsman. She worked at checking the engines with calipers and micrometers to make sure the metal was the correct thickness.

Does anyone have a picture of the factory?

The Rolls Royce factory encompassed almost the entire Hillington Industrial Estate during the 2nd war and progressively shrunk to the western edge of it. I don't know if Rolls royce maintains a presence at Hillington but (most if not all) it transferred to a purpose built factory in nearby Inchinnan a few years ago.

I used to work for Rolls Royce in Hillington many years ago and recently transferred my pension to my current employer's scheme and I had to do this through their Derby site. I don't know if all records are kept there but I would reckon that you should start there.
