Doherty marries a McCafferty, a Kearney, & another Doherty
« on: Wednesday 09 September 09 00:59 BST (UK) »
Hoping someone had Doherty relatives married to Doherty, Kearney, and / or McCafferty lines. I have a John Doherty born about 1829 that married a Rose McCafferty around 1860. They had a lot of children, but their one son Michael Doherty married a Rose Doherty. Her parents were Arthur Doherty and Anne Kearney. Anne Kearney's father was Cornelius. Arthur's father was also Cornelius. I was hoping someone has a connection to these lines. Thank you, Bob C

Can't help with information on these particular families but Doherty is, as far as I know, the most comon Donegal surnam,e whic won't make things any easier for you and civil registration of births, deaths and Catholic marriages didn't start until 1864. For earlier dates you need to check any surviving church records. There's a very good booklet for Donegal ancestry available online which might be of interest-

Donegal resources are in a stickied thread at the top of the Donegal board-

Hello, if this is of any help with your research. I am researching my Thomas Doherty born about 1830 and died after 1872 and his wife Sarah Rourke born about 1830 and died also after 1872. Their son James born 31 Mar 1851 in Ballyshannon and died in Lowell, MA, USA on 6 Apr 1908 is my Great Grandfather. I am and will be researching Ballyshannon and am looking for others that are also, Cheers, Craig Dougherty

I am related to John Doherty & Rose McCafferty.  They are my great great grandparents.  Their son John is my great grandfather, he married a Kathleen Sweeney.  Their son John is my grandpa.  I'd love to hear from you & swap family information. NorahP

Hi Norah, I am related to you John and Rose Doherty through their son Michael like Regina. She is my mom's first cousin. Do you have a tree on Ancestry?

Hi, thanks for replying to me.  I've just started my tree on ancestry so not got much done.  Is the Regina you talk about a Dougherty? If so, she answered a message I put on another message board which put me in touch with Roseann Doherty's grand daughter.  I'm finding out more and more about my family every day.  Where are you?  I'm in Scotland (up very late) NorahP

Hi, Duffy C!
I, too, am in Rochester and looking for Doherty connections!  I have so little to go on, though.  Is there anywhere in your Dohertys a Mary born in England between about 1840 and 1850?  She married James Callahan.  Her first child (to survive infancy?) was b. 1868.  They had 4 girls, Annie, Hannah, Bridget and Mary.  James died in 1873 in Donegal.  Can't find birth of any of them or marriage of Mary and James.  Elder 2 girls came to Pgh in 1883.  Younger 2 stayed and married in Donegal in 1890s, listing their townland as Tirargus, though that may have been their grandfather Callahan's place.  They had an uncle Hugh, but idk whether he was a Doherty or a Callahan.  I have no other info at all on our Dohertys!
Main focus: Callahan, Doherty, Gibbons, all probably Donegal
Also McHugh, O'Leary, Perry, Kenney, Roche, Schubert, McCarthy, Carroll
