BULT - b.1861 - Abergavenny
« on: Tuesday 08 September 09 23:44 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am trying to find the parents/siblings of:

Henry Vale (also spelt Veale) BULT.

According to the 1901/1891 census / freebmd he was born in 1861 in Abergavenny.

I cannot however find any trace of him there and would appreciate any help.

I did notice a 'Henry P BOLT' in the 1871 census - could this be the same person as 'Henry V BULT' (the mistake would be understandable). A clue may be any evidence of 'Veale', or 'Vale' in his father's name.

It is of course unlikely that he'll be in the 1861 census, but this may be useful for a confirmatory check of any information concerning his parents/older siblings found in 1871.

Many thanks,

Paul

Mary J Bult Veale daughter 16 Abergavenny Mon

veale has been put on the end of everyone's name as a kind of afterthought?????

Now- 1871 looks like same family but father's forename differs????? Surname is transcribed as Buth - but looks like Bult on (badly written) image

Arthur Bult son 3 Abergavenny Mon
James Sp??? neice's son 5 Devonshire
Joseph Pringler Lodger 42 lab Bridgnorth Shropshire

likely marriage?

Francis Bult Veale june qtr 1855 Bath vol 5c pg 1176 with Louisa Matilda Sims on the same page

Eliza was registered as Eliza Sims Bult june qtr 1851 Clifton vol 11 pg 296

1851 transcribed as Butt
21 Gloster lane, Bristol HO107/1954 folio 121 pg 26
Francis Bult head mar 31 sheet iron & line (?) worker b. Middlesex
Louisa M wife 26 b. Froome, Somerset
Isaac W son 2 b. Bath Walcot
Eliza dau 2 weeks b. Bristol st Philip
James Sims lodger widower 65 smith etc b. Bristol St Philip
James W Jones lodger 20 tinman b. Bitton
William J Sims 20 stone mason b. Froome
Louisa Sims mar 45 nurse b. Wilts Hightisbury (Heytesbury?)

I suspect that Louisa Sims is the mother of Louisa M. There's a possible baptism for Louisa 25/11/1824 in IGI batch C083671 for Wesleyan Methodist, Frome giving her parents as William & Louisa formerly Lewis. 2 other possible siblings in the same batch have the same mother but father given as Moses, Christiana born 9/11/1833 bp 9/3/1834 and William James born 11/2/1831 bp 9/3/1834 who fits with the lodger.

1841 4 New St, Lyncombe & Widcombe, Bath HO107/931/15 folio 30 pg 24
Moses Sims 45 labourer
Louisa 35
James 10
John 6
Isaac 2
Christiana 8
all born in county

So where does this 'Veale' come from ?

I guess next stop has to be Francis' father ... was he carrying the 'Veale' name too ???
