Charles Wilson was baptised on 13 Oct 1820 in Kinnethmont, Aberdeenshire. He married on 20 Nov 1842 to Jane Davie in Rayne, Aberdeenshire.

In 1851 at 9 Canal Street, Greyfrairs, Aberdeen:

- Charles Wilson, 30, head, b.1821 in Kinethmont, Aberdeenshire, Brewery Carter
- Jane Wilson, wife, 31, b.1820 in Crathes, Kincardineshire
- Julia Wilson, 8 (b.19 Feb 1843, c.5 Mar 1843 in Rayne, Aberdeen)
- Alexander Wilson, 4, son, b.1847 in Banchory Devenick, Kincardineshire, scholar
- John Wilson, 3
- Mary Wilson, 1
- Alexander Wilson, 32, brother, b.1819 in Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Joiner (journeyman)

Charles Wilson was recorded as being a brewer in 1866. His father was Alexander Wilson.

Alexander Wilson had the following children, all in Kennethmont, Aberdeen:
- GEORGE WILSON c.16 NOV 1808
- MARY WILSON c.15 JUL 1810
- WILLIAM WILSON c.25 DEC 1812
- JAMES WILSON c.28 MAR 1815
- FRANCES MARGARET WILSON c.28 MAR 1817
- ALEXR. WILSON c.8 DEC 1818
- CHARLES Wilson c.13 Oct 1820 <---------
- CATHARINE ANN WILSON c.16 JAN 1823

Alexander must have been born about 1785. Here are some possibilities:

20 Jul 1780 - WILSON ALEXANDER, parents GEORGE WILSON and MARGT. SMITH, b.PREMNAY (Premnay is near Old Rayne, but is 20 miles NW of Aberdeen)
29 Jul 1781 - WILSON ALEXANDER, GEORGE WILSON and ?, b.METHLICK (Methlick is about 30 miles NW of Aberdeen)
11 Nov 1781 - WILSON ALEXANDER, JAMES WILSON and ELSPET MILNE, b.OLD DEER
15 Mar 1782 - WILSON ALEXANDER, ALEXANDER WILSON and ?, b.ALFORD
28 Feb 1783 - WILSON ALEXANDER, ALEXANDER WILSON and MARTHA ARGO, , b.UDNY
25 Mar 1784 - WILSON ALEXANDER, ALEXR. WILSON and JANE MURRAY, b.KING EDWARD
04 Aug 1785 - WILSON ALEXANDER, JAMES WILSON and ?, b.FYVIE
15 May 1786 - WILSON ALEXANDER, JAMES WILSON and ?, b.TURRIFF

I think the first record is the favourite because of the names George and Margaret being carried on through Alexander's children.

Here are some possibilities for his marriage:

1 Feb 1806 to Jane Cruikshank in Cairnie, Aberdeenshire (Cairnie is just by Huntly)
2 Aug 1807 to Mary Barrack at Ellon, Aberdeenshire (Ellon is about 20 miles north of Aberdeen, halfway between Aberdeen and Peterhead)
15 May 1808 to Isabel Jaffray in Foveran, Aberdeenshire

Does any of this strike any bells?

Thanks,
Simon

Hi Carolyn,

I'd like to take you up on your kind offer, but I wouldn't know what to search for. All Wilsons will probably turn up dozens and dozens. All I know so far is that Alexander Wilson had the following children, all in Kennethmont:

- George in 1808
- Mary in 1810
- William in 1812
- James in 1815
- Frances Margaret in 1817
- Alexander in 1818
- Charles in 1820
- Catharine Ann in 1823

I don't yet know who Alexander's wife was who had al these children, of which Charles and Alexander certainly survived into adulthood.

I noticed the Alexander Wilson and Jean Watson posting that you have here, and they were my 5 x great-grandparents.  My ancestor is their daughter, Elizabeth Wilson, who married Donald Forsyth.

I have done quite a bit of research on the descendants of Donald & Elizabeth, if you are willing to exchange information.

Kind regards,

Donna

Donna, just curious, but do you know Jean Watson's parents were?
