Hi and welcome to Rootschat,

 :D

Both Robert and Jacobina were alive in 1891 as they appear on the 1891 census for Scotland:-

Robert Glen 81
Jacobina Glen 78
Robert Glen 49
Jacobina Glen 18

They were living at 59 Croft Street and Robert Glen snr is a retired tailor.

Parish: Bonhill; ED: 13; Page:  28; Line: 14; Roll  CSSCT1891_157; Year: 1891.

The only place I can think for BMD in Scotland is http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/
and you have to register and buy credits.  I don't think there is an equivalent in Scotlandto the FreeBMD  ???.

HI, the indexes to SP are free so you can search them for the deaths and only need to buy credits if you get some 'hits'. just one credit will then give you basic date /place.

ok had a quick look - without using credits both deaths are on SP:

put in names / date of birth and search 1891 - 1900.

worth buying the minimum amout to look as you know they are there. you can also print off sometimes (not sure about later dates)

Hello
I  have connections with a James Gordon Glen from Dumbartonshire - not many concrete details about his birth just yet, only that it was about 1820. He sailed to Australia via Port elizabeth, South Africa in 1849. Any connection?
cheers
Louiseanne

Sorry Louiseanne your James Glen does is not in my family tree. Glen was a common name in the Dunbartonshire area at that time. My ancestors came from Luss and Bonhill area.

I had a look at Scotlands People website and there were no James Glen born between 1815 and 1822 in Dunbartonshire, but 2 born between 1823 and 1824.

Maybe he is one of them. If I find any connection in my research I will get back to you. Best of luck.

Thank you so much for your response. That was my first real foray in to Rootschat and I'm happy to get a reply! Bit disappointed about the lack of connection but look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers.
