Sandra Your Smith connection

found this below;-

Seeking information on the ancestors (and confirmation of the immediate descendents) of William Cockroft and Abigail Smith Cockroft, married 1/24/1811. I believe Abigail's father was James Smith, and Abigail and William had a son whom they named James Smith Cockroft (my 5th ggrandfather).

Anyhow, two of James Smith Cockroft's sons (Charles and David - I don't know whether there were any other children) were born in Halifax, Yorkshire,in the 1840's and emigrated to the US @1860. Their father, James Smith Cockroft was both baptised and buried at Illingworth Chapel, Yorkshire.

If it's any help, Abigail, J.S. Cockroft's wife, may have been christened in 1787 at South Parade, Wesleyan, Halifax, Yorkshire.

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Hi dobby,

That's interesting about South Parade, will have to do try to find out more.
I remember being in touch with this woman on the net some years ago. She asked then if there was a connection.
Some other woman, I don't know if it was her said that some of the Cockrofts went out to Russia to teach weaving and then cam eback again.
I am more than interested i nthe land situation for the Cockrofts re Saville.
Someone in our family, may be the Partington- North line is called Saville.
But that may be coincidence. Oh I wish I could rmemebr all my grandmother ever told me about the family, but I was so young.
I still feel that there is something with the land down at Broad Tree. Also the fact that there is a large mill on the river bank where I feel that there might be a connection with the Cockroft family industry or soemthing. All the Cockrofts lived there at some time in Broad Tree Terrace, which could be on the main
Ovenden Road. There is a terrace of houses there. I couldn't see anything
aroudn that area other than those. But Wood Square looks interesting as a smal holding. Wonder if that land is what was left them?
I had a look for anyhting on Illingworth Hall Farm and couldn[t find much other than Malcolm Bull site and that didn[t say much either.] Would like to find out the past  owners.
Sandra
RE John Cockroft born 1808 bigamist there is, if I remember right an article on him on the Malcolm Bull site.  I don't have time to persue this line as I have the decorators all in at the moment and you can image the mess.  I have another week of this yet.  So will have to fit in when I can on the ancestry.

Based on the original markerstones, The grave sales John Cockroft Tippingreen and the grouping of Cockroft graves also the numerical order of dates of burials on these stones by the entrances gate and dates on the headstone in year by year order. This could be the Grave 273 large family grave. Every thing seems to fit! next grave is Thomas Cockroft Grave owner

Photo gone to B?W uploading for some reason but you'll  get the drift.
