Greetings
I am seeking any information possible as to ancestry of my paternal grandfather, Joseph Wallen and his wife Ethel (Nee Knill)
My elder brother before he passed away was able to trace the following that I now provide below, anything more than that will be a much appreciated bonus, so that I may pass onto my nieces a few links re their family tree now that they themselves are having children.
Henry James Wallen (my great grandfather) was born in 1848 (I think - place unknown) He married Sarah (nee Holt) and they lived at 146 South Street, Bishop Stortford, when they lived there or at Much Haddam, they had their first son, James Henry.
James Henry was born on 13th November 1892, christened at Much Haddam 1st January 1893. He is believed to have died from influenza, in Italy, and was buried at Staglieno Cemetery, Genoa.
Their next son was Joseph Wallen (My grandfather) born 30 November 1894, Christened at Much Haddam 6th January 1895.
Joseph married Ethel (nee Knill), they had two sons Kenneth James Wallen (my father) and Peter John Knill Wallen. Unfortunately my father got married in 1940, against his parents wishes, and lost contact with his family, but do know that his father was a Policeman with the Hertfordshire Constabulary.
Then Henry James Wallen had Hannah, born 4th May 1897, again christened at Much Haddam 4th July 1897.
Then Henry James had Fred, born 4th November 1904. Fred was killed in WWII, on 23rd August 1941, in submarine P32, in the Mediterranean, hit a mine. Remembered at Chatham Naval Memorial.
The above is all pretty well confirmed, so any information on Henry James Wallen and or his wife Sarah would be most appreciated as would following my paternal grandmothers lineage Ethel Wallen (nee Knill).
As I am now the last living aged member of my family I would like to pass on some family history to my nieces as they are all now having children. All or any information gratefully received,
Thanking You in anticipation
Regards
Ken
