SHADWELL COMPLETED THANK YOU
« on: Saturday 05 September 09 12:15 BST (UK) »
I am a bit confused at the moment
 evidence so far

1893 and 1895 2 children born Shadwell

1901 family living Ascot Road
Canning Town

1911 family living Ordnance Road
Plaistow

child shown on 1911 as being born 1903 (8 on census)  Shadwell

I have visited ERO to scour church records for baptism, none found, no registration found, we know his exact birth date but not exact year, give or take 1 year either side, none found, searched Canning Town and Plaistow 1903-1905, I assummed that would be the areas as both census addresses are in these areas

If a child was born in Shadwell would that be the registration district of if the family moved could they register it in the new area bearing in mind 42 days are allowed for registration a family could have moved by then.

I am at a loss with this person, who I can't name on  a public board, we know he lived and we know when he died but there seems to be "no paper trail" for anything else in between

Shadwell comes under Stepney but I wonder what church it could be if he was baptised in Shadwell

Any suggestions please

Ordnance Road was located in Canning Town-within the then County Borough of West Ham.

It appears that Ordnance Road and surrounding areas were  bombed during WW2 and  some of the houses demolished and or badly damaged and demolished at the end of WW2.

Then in the 1970's  the County Borough of West Ham merged with the adjoining Borough of East Ham to become the one Borough of Newham.

Ibelive this question has been asked before and the answer is (if I remeber rightly) that whilst the birth can be reported within a different district it will be recorded in the district where the event took place.  So if the family did move within the 42 day period the birth should still be recorded as having taken place in the district which Shadwell comes under, which as you rightly say was Stepney.

You could try this site http://www.parishregister.com/searchpage.asp  There are a few lists which go up to 1900s.  The one at Wapping, which is next to Shadwell could be worth a look at.  In fact it is worth looking at all those within the date period as people did move around but may have stuck to a church for baptisms.

St George in the East and St Dunstans were popular churches for the area
