Lorraine,
If you click on the little green Squiggle on the bottom left of Fay's post it will set up the PM system. Fay may need to make another posting but I have successfully sent PMs when the recipient had only two postings as Fay has.

I have an interest in this family to rule in or out. my grandfather john edward currie(maybe mispelt) was the  son of a john  currie who died aged 53 in 1903 at balmain NSW.I know the spelling is different
but i can find no john currie being born in Australia around 1850 so i tried curry.
the only one to turn up is the son of john and margaret, edward john aged 1 on the oriental into NSW 1850.
any help with this family would be most welcomed.

Jo, you wanted to know about Edward John Curry. He arrived on the Oriental, in 1850 aged 1, along with his parents, Margaret and John, and eight siblings, two daughters remaining in Northern Ireland.  He married Sarah Jane Waldron.  There is a history of the Waldrons on the net "Waldrons of Illawarra".  I am descended from Edward's sister, Rebecca. If you want to know more, my email is: (*)
Jo, your Lydia Anne Curry who married a John Johnston is one of the daughters who stayed behind.

Hi there
I've just come across your discussions re the above family. I am involved in data entry for the Society of Australian genealogists at present with a project on Pubs and Publicans in NSW and have been working on John Cullen who married Anna Maria  Curry in 1856 at Kiama.  I was interested to know what made the Curry family go to Kiama and obviously this is where Cullen went not too long after his arrival in NSW in 1855.

Any help would be great.  I've discovered both John and Anna Maria were buried at Rookwood cemetery. I'm happy to add to your research with what I have if necessary.

Hi Maxine,
John Curry, his wife Maragaret and ten of their 12 (or 13?) children came to Kiama from County Tyrone, Ireland in 1850 on the ship Oriental.  He worked first as a cedar-getter, then selected land at Foxground (now Curry's Mountain.)  The land reminded them of where they had come from.  Several other families, some related to them, came out to the same area, including the Cullens.  Information about the Currys and the Cullens is in the 2010 version of the "Pioneers and Settlers in the Police District of Kiama NSW prior to 1920", and on the Gerringong Pioneers Register, I think it is called, on the net.  A detailed paragraph about the Irish settlers in Kiama, and those from Tyrone, is in the book"Farewell my Children" by Richard e. Reid.  John Curry was my G.Grandfather.

Hi Fay
Many many thanks for that information, I had a feeling John Cullen must have known Anna Maria before emigrating as their marriage seemed to be not long after he had arrived.

Of course doing this data entry gets one involved in the people and I get side tracked very easily.  I'll have a look at those books you recommended somewhere, our local Historical Society is always keen to get more information also. I live at Moss Vale.

Thanks again,
Maxine

Hi Maxine
Glad to be of help!  I live in Canberra, and am involved in family history research (as you can tell!!)  I belong to the Canberra Heraldry and Genealogy Society (HAGSOC), but haven't explored what your organisation can offer, obviously a lot!  what can you tell me about it,and whether one can apply to have research done?
