PS History already - before the harbour was done up at the millenium.  All the railway lines have gone now and there's a paved walk right across witha gate and path across the harbour entrance!

The point I was trying to make is that tracing every Peter Johnson on freebmd born between 1895-1910 is not of any use to you at this particular stage as you have no clear information to make any definite links. 

The only positive info is the address in Essex when he was in his 20's or 30's and that he was some kind of engineer

The limited information you have about him is from his life as an adult and it will only be when that part is unravelled that the 1901 and 1911 census could be useful

I appreciate that this person is important to you and really hope that the Essex electoral rolls give you enough information on which you can build some kind of search criteria to help you trace his ancestry
