Paul's of Killearn,Iam in the need of help to trace the fathers /mothers birth,marriage,death,son, robert paul b. 1804,m.1829 to annie norval, d.1885.SP has all the detail for Robert/Annie plus down thro the years up to now.
 the SP birth record of robert, 1804 states his father as,walter paul,mother margaret,(peggy) watson,
 I have SP,not sure of the records,spent 67 SP credits on this adventure.
Any one out there to help please?

Hi, checked the IGI for other children of Walter and Margaret(Peggy)

Elizabeth ch1788 Killearn
Jean ch 1790 Killearn
Margaret ch1792 Killearn
Janet ch 1795 Killearn
John ch1798 Killearn

There is also a Robert ch 11th Oct 1803 New Kilpatrick Dunbarton, I'm not sure if this is an older Robert who died( remember children were sometimes months or years old when christened) or more likely the same Robert christened  after birth and again in this home parish.

Assuming Walter and Peggy use the normal Scottish naming pattern and that no children are missing from this list, that would  mean that Walter's parents were JOHN and JEAN. Could this be his birth/christening?

Then looked for Margaret with parents ROBERT and ELIZABETH , no joy.
Tried a bit of lateral thinking , did one of her parents have the same name as one of his?

Margaret Watson ch 23rd Aug 1761 New Kilpatrick Dunbarton
Father JOHN WATSON, Mother Elizabeth Bryson.

Can't say for sure they are your Walter and Peggy but with that New Kilpatrick christening I feel this might be them.

All the above are extracted entries on the IGI- from the OPRs, which you can view on SP.
 
 Don't see a marriage for Walter and Peggy.

Hello James N, hear that you are visiting Killearn in the next few weeks, lucky you!!! 

Just wanted to suggest that you have a look at Strathblane Churchyard whilst you are in the area, plenty of Norvals there ....I can't remember if they are in your time period or not and can't find the photo's I took but worth a look a anyway.

My maternal grandmother was Mary Paul born 1868 Drumbeg Farm Killearn. I think her grandfather John was born 18/08/1801 and he married Margaret Moir 3/6/1825. Their son John was born 6/1/1828, and later sons Robert and Walter were born 1836 and 1838  I think Margaret probably died when Walter was born, but cannot find a record of this. John Paul Senior then married Elizabeth King 2/8/1840 and they had 6 children between 1843 and 1850.
John Paul Junior married Mary Smith 6/3/1857, and son John William was born 19/12 /1859 and I think Mary must have died then as baby John W was with his Grandmother Elizabeth Smith on 1861 Census. Jis Father then Married Marion Paul 6/4/1862 and then on 11.10.1864 he married Mary Drummond who bore my Grandmother Mary Findlater [nee Paul} in 1868. He was a widower on 1861 Census His marriage record states that both his parents were deceased and on 1871 Census he had the farm of 100 acres and John William aged 11 was living at the farm Drumbeg. I would appreciate any information or old copies of old photos. John Paul Sr. died 1919. John Cameron

Monica.    I could not get anywhere with the reference received today.  I forgot to advise in my previous reply that I am trying to trace which John Paul developed the first black sweet pea flower.  My maternal grandmother told me tis, but I do not know whether he was her father, half-brother John William or her grandfather.  I would appreciate if anyone can supply this information and/or a copy of any old photos of the past John Paul's in my family tree. I am also seeking a photo of my uncle John Thomas Cameron, born Kilchrenan, Argyll 1890, and killed in France on 3/10/1918, as I am named after him.

Dear Paul's of Killearn. I am having difficulty in tracing the following:
My grandfather, Robert Mc Nicol, was born 7th August 1863 @  Killearn to James Mc Nicol & Mary Fairlie. He Married Jemina Taylor on 21st April 1893. He was a Gardener and lived at Craighat Cottage, Killearn. He had 3 children William Archibald (my father); Robert and Grace [or Gracie]
I have no record of his or Jemina's deaths, but assume that they died in Killearn and are buried there.
Also, I understand that my grandfather was a Lay preacher - I don't know quite what this means. Could this be with the local Church of Scotland or was there a branch of the 'Plymouth Brethren' in Killearn at that time.
As all my relatives are dead now, I cannot get any information from that source.
Can you please help in any way?
I now reside in Cornwall, so it is not easy for me to get up to Killearn for myself to do research.
