Johnson/Jackson/Davison
« on: Tuesday 01 September 09 23:05 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

Can anyone help me with the following.  I would like to know where any of the following are buried.  They all lived in and around Wolsingham.

Elizabeth Johnson (1877) daughter of Robert Johnson and Henrietta Jackson.  Roberts parents were Thomas and Jane Johnson, I do not know Jane's maiden name yet.  Henrietta's parents were John Wren Vipond Jackson and Dorothy Davison.  I know his first wife Agnes dies after the birth of a daughter Agnes.

Elizabeth (above) married my great grandfather James Wilson.

Any info would be greatly appreciated, I live in Cornwall and will not be able to visit for some time!

Thanks

Elizabeth Johnson 1877

Hello

Can anyone help me find the baptism of Elizabeth Johnson 1877 born in Wolsingham?  She was the daughter of Robert Johnson and Henrietta Jackson.  I think 1877 is acurate as I have her marriage certificate to James Wilson.

I would like to obtain her birth certificate but I have found alot of possibles on ancestry and I cannot guess which entry is right!  Can anyone shed any light??

Many thanks

Emma

Hi Emma

You may already have these baptisms:

Wolsingham  St. Mary & St. Stephen
11 Aug 1850 Henrietta Jackson, of Wolsingham, daughter of John Wren Vipond Jackson (grocer) by his wife Dorothy

Wolsingham  St. Mary & St. Stephen
22 Apr 1847 Robert Johnson, of Wolsingham, son of Thomas Johnson (gardener) by his wife Jane

I see you've posted a request for Elizabeth's baptism.
It would be helpful to know the birthdates of all the others as that will help when checking for burials/death registrations.  Do you have their birthdates from census etc and have you looked for their deaths in the GRO index?

Hi Emma,

Wolsingham comes under Weardale reg district.  The only birth registration I can see in Weardale is this one:

Jun 1878 Weardale    10a   322
JOHNSON    Elizabeth Annie

You could always check with the local registrar for parents' names before buying the certificate, they usually will do that free if you are buying the cert.
You can order this one online from the Durham County website at http://www.rootschat.com/links/070p/ or download the application form and mark your query on it if not sure if it's the right one, and post it to them.

If you order through the GRO they make a charge of £3 for reference checking, but if it's right that's included in the £7 cert fee

I've just realised that that birth registration may be for this Elizabeth, so wouldn't be right, sorry:

1881 census shows Elizabeth as aged 8 so born 1873 not 1877

So maybe this is her birth reg:

1872   Dec   Weardale   10a  329   JOHNSON Elizabeth

You could find that on the Durham CC website link that I gave earlier and order the cert through them

Are you sure of her age on the marriage cert?  Mistakes do occur on certificates

As you'll see from my reply on your other post, the 1891 census shows Henrietta as a widow, and youngest son aged 4, so at least you know that Robert Johnson died between 1886 & 1891

Do you have all the census for the other people, to give some idea when they all may have died?

Thank you Barbara,

I only know that Elizabeth was born in 1877 from Census/marriage certificate.  I do not know her date of birth.  I found about 4 or 5 possibles on birth registrations.  How do I look at GRO death index.  I assume that I do so on ancestry?

I do have the two baptisms you have mentioned, they are the only ones I have.  I will have a look at the census records that I have and see what I can figure out.  Thanks, I will get some more to you, sorry I am a bit of a novice still!
