Hi Valda

But on another posting on this site,  date's of births was given from 1901 to  1911, so tech speaking they could still be alive ???

Hi Ricky

There were two posts placed on this thread. One for a birth registration in the middle 1930s and one for two birth registrations in the 1920s. I know lots of people still alive born in the 1930s, now relatively few from the 1920s. It was a straigtforward decision to delete the post of the birth registration in the 1930s and it was logical to do the same for the 1920s and give a full explanation of the reasoning behind the action. As I said in my previous email if I didn't put a notice on this post about sending further more modern information by pm then when I came back to the topic I might find more information had been posted.

Births at the beginning of the C20th are now much less likely to still be alive, but again it is also about the context of the post. If the topic is about trying to research back from the 1911 and 1901 censuses (the former close to the 100 year ruling) then really there is little issue because more modern information is not being asked - the poster knows the modern. However as in this case the encouragement was to come forward from the early 1920s and trace potentially living relatives and their descendants.

Certainly any births before the 100 year ruling are fine. Close to the 100 year ruling is more of a grey area depending on the post and if the information given shows the person has died. The 1920s is definitely a time period where more people are still living (in their 80s) or have relatively recently died and if the latter is the case you certainly don't want to upset close living relatives either. For these later births either pm or refer the poster to FreeBMD to find the information out for themselves. The coverage charts for FreeBMD for births show almost a 100% coverage for births up to 1930 and increasing coverage of the early 1930s

As I said Rootschat policy is quite clear, this website is about researching our ancestors - going back in time and not coming forward to find potentially still living people and their descendants.

Hello,

Regarding: 'Please do not post requests asking for help to find (possibly) living relatives or friends.'

Sorry if anyone has been misled here. I was looking ONLY for information of my ancestors, it is why I joined rootschat.com... but I had to use my grandfather (who passed away 7 years ago) as a reference point. The aim is to head backwards, to see what we can find!  :) You'll see that I didn't actually post a request to find a possibly living relative but just wanted some information in general (meaning some reference points, heading backwards). I suppose everybody needs to take care about posting replies if they think that the relative may still be alive. It is clearly not wise to post precise birth dates with names of those you may think still be alive!
Still, I am sure we can move on from this now!

Thanks

Hello again. Valda, sorry.. regarding your statement: 'However as in this case the encouragement was to come forward from the early 1920s and trace potentially living relatives and their descendants.'

That isn't really true on my part. The very first two sentences in my post were actually:
I am searching information about Arthur and Hannah Munger. Their son, my grandfather (Dennis Munger) was born in Chiswick, 1922 and died in 2002 in Berkshire.
These are the parents of my grandfather (who died in 2002)! This is the direction I was heading... so I am not really sure why people were inclined to head forward on this post.
Never mind,
Thanks.

Hi Ringy

I am searching information about Arthur and Hannah Munger. Unusual surname, I know. ;)

Their son, my grandfather (Dennis Munger) was born in Chiswick, 1922 and died in 2002 in Berkshire. He had several sisters. I don't know much about them. One of them I believe was/is called Shirley.

Would be very intersting to hear if anyone has information.
Regards

Ryan.

It wasnt our intention to put people's names on here who may be alive today, I posted a couple of possible sisters for you born around 1922/1923.

Yes, I understand Ricky. Really, we should all understand that we are looking for ancestors in this forum. I am grateful for people willing to help out but I didn't wish to seek information about modern relatives. Perhaps I should have highlighted that more clearly but I thought it was understood by the nature of the website. When I said that I didn't know much about his sisters, I meant it to mean that I didn't have the information for reference points, in order to find more information about Arthur and Hannah Munger. Sorry, if that wasn't clear.  :-\ As I said, I was searching for information about Arthur and Hannah Munger - it even says it in the posting subject.  ;) I did get some help in that direcation and thanks to those for helping!  ;D
Anyway...  :D

Hi Ringy

What you have so far is your grandfather's birth reference and a potential marriage of his parents.

Births Jun 1922  Munger  Dennis W  Thompson  Brentford  3a 361

Brentford registration district covers Chiswick and your grandfather's death registration states Dennis William and a birthdate of 29th March - so his birth was registered in the following June quarter probably in April.

I think you will need to obtain his parents marriage certificate to be able to research his mother since her name Thompson is a common surname unless you have any further information on her.

Marriages Mar 1920
Munger  Arthur  Thompson  Kensington  1a 393
Thompson  Annie  Munger  Kensington  1a 393

This is the only female Thompson and male Munger marriage

You can obtain the certificate from the GRO

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

Munger is a rarer name so much easier to follow.

This seems the likely candidate for your great grandfather

Births Sep 1898
MUNGER  Arthur     Brentford  3a 117

There are only three other Arthur Munger birth registrations between 1870 and 1910 and the other three all have middle names and are not registered in the London area. Obtaining Arthur's marriage details will confirm his father anyway but this is the 1901 census information for the Arthur born in 1898 in Chiswick.

1901 census RG13 1198 folio 54
39 Reckett Road Chiswick
Ebenezer Munger 42 Head Married General labourer Towersey Oxon
Charlotte Munger 36 Wife Married Wormley Herts
Edith Munger 12 Daughter Chiswick Middlesex
Emily Munger 10 Daughter Chiswick Middlesex
Frederick Munger 8 Son Chiswick Middlesex
Ellen Munger 7 Daughter Chiswick Middlesex
Daisy Munger 4 Daughter Chiswick Middlesex
Arthur Munger 3 Son Chiswick Middlesex
Albert Munger 1 Son Chiswick Middlesex

Because of copyright reasons you cannot request a search of the 1911 census, you will have to do the look up yourself.

http://www.1911census.co.uk/

1891 census RG12 1033 folio 123
13 Quick Road Chiswick
Ebenezer Munger 31 Head Married Carman Thame Oxon
Charlotte Munger 27 Wife Married Wormley Herts
Edith Munger 1 Daughter Chiswick Middlesex
Lizzie Wicher 20 Visitor Wormley Herts

Marriages Dec 1885
Cooke  Charlotte Eliza    Edmonton  3a 374
MUNGER  Ebenezer     Edmonton  3a 374

The surname Munger is registered with the Guild of One Name Studies. Guild members research all lines for that surname so it might be worth contacting the Guild member to find out what sort of information they hold on your Munger line.
