Restore and date a WW2 war hero please **COMPLETE**

Would some kind soul please restore the attached photo of my DAD.  If anyone can place or date the photo I would be grateful. ;D

This looks overseas so 1946ish France/Germany?

No, He was in Belgium/France !939-40 (Dunkirk), but as far as I know he never got to Germany. By 1946 he was back in the UK.

well for a start he is wearing a collar and tie so it would indicate that he was off duty and seeing that the army introduced this wear into the uniform from July 1942 it would have be taken sometime after that date.

With evidence of "Cap Ridiculous", open collar and tie (deffo!!) and lack of web anklets or any other war fighting kit around, I would put this around winter 1945. I dont think it would be any earlier than winter 1944, and it is deffo in foreign climes.... ;D

It could be that his kit is already on the wagons, and he is off home to be demobbed!

Have you got hs service records from the Veterans Agency?

His service record shows North Africa 26.2.43 - 29.10.45 (I know he was in Italy from 7.12.43) then Home 30.10.45.
