ruabon and newbridge post offices HELP !!!
« on: Monday 31 August 09 14:17 BST (UK) »
presently i am looking for ancestors in the ruabon and new bridge areas but seem to be getting lost !!!

i am looking for details on john price born 1837 in chirk who married mary williams born 1839 in ruabon living in  newbridge post office in 1861 on i think.

mary had a sister anne (annie..born ruabon 1841) she was resident at the post office in ruabon untill 1901, mary seem to have passed away some time in the 1880's and john and thier children (arthur, edith and myfanwy/dorothy) moved in with her.

i have been to various locations (church's and ruthin records office) but to no avail.

can anyone here shed any light on this? maybe look up in some records?

many thanks in advance !!!

The only John Price born in Chirk I am finding in both the 1841 and 1851 Census is one given as born in c 1834.He is given as the son of a Robert and Elizabeth Price.Where did John Price marry Mary Williams?

unfortunatly i dont know where they married !

i think john died in 1901-1903 in the 1891 census he is listed as "wieghbridge clerk in colliery"
in all cencus he is listing place of birth as chirk-denbighshire

his daughters, myfanwy dorothy price,  wedding cert (20/12/1902) states "post office-newbridge" as his address and weighing machine clerk as his occupation.

is there anything else that you could need to help?

It looks like my hunch about the John Price born in Chirk in c 1835 the son of Robert and Elizabeth Price in the 1841 and 1851 Census years is almost certainly correct. The 1861 Census shows John as still single and again born in Chirk in c 1835 and listed as a Colliery Clerk. He is shown as the son of Robert Price given as born in Chirk in c 1794.Robert is given as a Colliery Overlooker. His Wife Elizabeth is given as born in Chirk in c 1797.They are living at Pentre Issa which lies between Newbridge and Chirk.

yep, you win !!!

i found john price in the 1861 census with both parents as you said. also looked up the 1841 census, the dates of birth are wildly out there.

the dates of the census later put his date of birth at 1837  ??? another red herring.

now i need to find real info on mary and anne williams born in chirk

many thanks so far....

chirk from what i can tell.

just been trying to find thier parents, but in 1841 there are lots of mary williams born denbighshire (chirk doesnt work well) no census for 1851 when i assume they would both be living at home and i think i found a marrage for john and mary in 1855 at llandilofawr (near ruabon?) so in 1861 mary wont be living with her parents and there are plenty anne williams to choose from  ::)
