James ROONEY b 1864 Tasmania
« on: Sunday 30 August 09 05:53 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
I hope this ones a bit easier.
I'm looking for, James Rooney b 1864 in Tasmania a few months after the death of his father Richard Rooney. His siblings were Ellen Jane born 1861 and Patrick William 1862, I have traced both of these.
Ellen married and had family in Albury NSW, Patrick in Gippsland.
Jame's mother Sarah Rooney nee Sims remarried my GG Grandfather Thomas Balcombe in Tasmania in 1864.
I have found a record I believe is James arriving in Sydney in 1883 aboard the "Stag" as a crew member.
There are various marriages in NSW and Victoria for James Rooney but I can't see that any of them were definitely him. I found his brother by looking at the names of the children of two possible marriages in Victoria, the family names were repeated.
Any Ideas

Hi mummum,

I looked at NSW Deaths 1883 to 1964. Nothing matched, but you've probably already done that!!

Tracey.

Hi Mum Mum,

A James Rooney died Sydney #5750/1929 aged 64.   Date and age seems right, perhaps the death cert may reveal info you want if it is your JR.

Hi,
Thanks, short of buying random certificates hoping to find him I think he may be lost.
I might look into some of the Victorian Rooney families on the chance that he followed his brother to Gippsland.

Hello
I can't help you too much about James Rooney, but I see that you have mentioned being a descendant of Thomas Balcombe.  He was also my GG Grandfather on my mothers side.  Would love to share any info or photos of the Balcombes.  My G grandfather Edward Clear married Maryann Balcombe.  She was a music teacher and they lived in Victoria.
Thank you

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, I think we have already spoken on ancestry. I was just looking at your tree today strangely enough.
My Grandmother was Annie Susannah Balcombe, see my profile photo.
