Alas, this is old news!

And there was me hoping that the project was to be brought forward!

Must be patient.......

Thanks Mo
Good news for some, but under "Notes for Editors"
the info re the fate of  pre 1901 census records is bitter news for those of us needing to start our search for Irish ancestors early to mid 19thC.  Oh well!! I'll just have to
keep plugging away.
Cheers

Has anyone heard if the project is still on target for the first releases in December?

Please say yes!

The link given earler is now broken.

Going to the home page and using the site-search facility (digital census) I found this page:
Quote
1901 & 1911 Census Digitisation Project

The household returns for the 32 county censuses of Ireland of 1901 and 1911, which are in the custody of the National Archives of Ireland, represent an extremely valuable part of Irish heritage, and a resource for genealogists, local historians and scholars. The National Archives of Ireland, in partnership with Library and Archives Canada, are digitising and indexing these census records to develop their full potential by making them available on the Internet over a 3-4 year period.

This Ireland-Canada Documentary Heritage Research Partnership will create a website with the census records as the centre of a range of records, texts and pieces by historians and curators on life at the turn of the last century. This will be a new and very important educational resource in addition to being a wonderful tool for family historians who want to trace their ancestors.

No dates given, I'm afraid, but details of a couple of other interesting projects there, as well.

Bob

Update:

I kept looking and then found what I believe was the original article (06/12/2005) under a different address
http://www.arts-sport-tourism.gov.ie/publications/release.asp?ID=1138

Dec. 2005 + 3-4 years = about 2010 ??? , so it looks like  :( :( :(

On the other hand, in the article it says:
Quote
A fascinating first-hand record and evidence of their forebears' household, family, social circumstances and location one hundred years ago will be available to view online and download to anyone from December 2006, when the first phase comprising the Dublin Census Records 1911 will be released.

So maybe  :) :) :) :) instead ???

1901 and 1911 Census

Has anyone heard anymore about the 1901 and 1911 censuses going on-line or was it just a dream I had that one day my Irish ancestors would be identifiable at the click of a mouse?  :D

hi,was just wondering about that too.
even googled 'the shamrock and maple leaf' and the first
site on the list was a canadian one with all sorts of irish historical
items on it but no census as yet.I know the national archives closes for 2 days
around the 22nd of december to allow the media access to
anything new for the year, with a bit of luck maybe thats when
the irish census may start to appear on line, says me with fingers crossed.

Censuses delayed:

Meanwhile, there have been delays in the expected release of the 1911 Census for Ireland. Dublin's records were due to be online at the end of December. Philip Doyle of the National Archives of Ireland told us: “Both the 1901 and 1911 censuses are expected to be online by 2008-09. Dublin Census Records for 1911 are now expected to be released in June 2007.

kind regards, Arranroots  ;)
