Is it possible this is another case of double counting? I mean, the wife not wishing to admit her husband was in prison? The birthplace and trade are the same, and Bilston was not yet as big a place as it was to become. Irish surnames, too, were rarer then than they were to become. The ages are admittedly different, but we're used to that on censuses, and other threads note the tendency to equalise the ages of couples on censuses when the bride was some way older. I only see one birth reg that fits - as Kilgallan in Wolverhampton district in 1850. Unless someone can find the two Martins on some other census, of course.

I'll revise my post above to a "maybe". There are other Thomas Kilgallons on other censuses, but only in 1881 are there two born Bilston. On the other hand, it's possible that one of them forgot his birthplace. The prisoner Thomas is described as Single, but I wouldn't attach much significance to that.

I was in a hurry. I meant Martin, as in my previous post - please reread accordingly.

HI everyone. My ancestor was Bridget Kilgallon and she moved to Bilston from Sligo/Mayo in the 1800s and married a John Banks.  She had a few children but the names that spring to mind were Martin, Catherine, Thomas to name but a few.  I am the ancestor of Thomas.
