Hi,

I found this in England & Wales Christening Records, 1530-1906 at Ancestry,

Thomas Woodly
Christening Date: 27 Apr 1740
Christening Place: Drayton, Berkshire

it's about 6 miles from Hagbourne but it doesn't give any parents :(

Regards
Daisy

Thanks Alan and Daisy Petal.  I think the 1709 is possibly to early, Thomas's first son born in 1762 after his marriage, it could be ofcourse as he could have married before.. I've been working around the 1730-40 mark so possibility with Drayton ( maybe completely wrong ofcourse!) I was ofcourse hoping that a 'Woodley' would have been one of their witnesses at Thomas's wedding - no such luck!

Angie

Have you seen the page or so of information about Thomas Woodley from West Hagbourne in the book "Windsor Hakebourne: the story of West Hagbourne"?

This Mr Woodley emigrated to New Zealand with his wife Martha in 1875.  The piece includes an article about their journey retold by his daughter in law Mary.

Type in Windsor Hakebourne.  It comes up with the village history and details of the book etc., published by the West Hagbourne Village History Group.  The site gives a view on the village which is very interesting; or try West Hagbourne and you get the same web page.  This is not the Thomas Woodley that I'm looking for, he was married to Mary and I can trace most of his descendants., what I'm struggling with is Thomas himself - nothing more than his marriage at the moment.

Regards

Hello Angie

Have just found the West Hagbourne website, which to my shame I had never looked at before - and I live there!

I have the book - just ask if you ever need anything looked up!

That title was a big mistake - having manned the Berks FHS stall at a number of fairs I notice that people interested in Windsor pick it up, and are disappointed. People interested in West Hagbourne don't even bother to pick it up unless someone points it out to them.

Don't let the title put anyone off - it's an excellent book!

Fantastic quality of production and content considering that it's put together by a team of volunteers from the local history group.
