COMPLETED WITH THANKS Thomas Woodley - Hagbourne?

I wonder whether someone has access to Hagbourne Marriages? and could offer any help  .  Thomas Woodley married Mary Harwood on 29 July 1761 at Hagbourne.  I'm looking for any clues on the marriage (witnesses etc) that might possibly lead on to finding a baptism and some parents for Thomas who has 'appeared' in my tree, and I'm trying every avenue to source where he may have come from.  Hagbourne maybe;  but I am unable to find him.  I have found lots of other 'Woodley' baptisms in Hagbourne, but can only find Thomas's son Thomas in 1762. ?   I have details of their children and can go forward, however I would like to try and find Thomas's parents.  Any help  would be greatly appreciated.

29-6-1761 Thomas Woodley, Lab.   married Mary Harwood, spin

Wits; Jonathon KEATE, Jo HARWOOD  by Banns  Jo.Scoolt, Minister

Continuing on;  Mary Harwood was baptised 22-9-1726 dau of John & Anne

Hagbourne - nothing more listed.

John Harwood married Anne Parsons 6-4-1725, Hagbourne -  again nothing

more is listed.

There are lots of Harwoods listed in the baptismal records but I could not

find a John Harwood within a relevant time frame (i.e.  a John born/bapt say

1680 - 1700)

Nor could I see the baptism of Anne Parsons.

Hi Alan,

Very many thanks for your reply.  The witness's are very interesting, assume Jo. Harwood is (John) Mary's father and the name Keate is one that crops up a few times in the Woodley line I am looking into, although they are mostly in Harwell; not knowing the area but looking on a map I see that it is relatively close to Hagbourne. I have a marriage for Katherine Woodley to John Keate in 1628 in Harwell, obviously a lot to do to connect the two events!  Possibly my Thomas Woodley came from Harwell and not Hagbourne..   I think I have to find out a little more about Jonathan Keate to know how he might fit in.

I have a  baptism for John Harwood  which I believe is correct 26 March 1703 Hagbourne son of John and Jane (?) and a baptism for Anne Parsons, again which I believe may be correct 30 March 1701 South Moreton, Berks, daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth (?)
I have not been able to verify either of these dates as yet, they were kindly given to me by another researcher.

I have found the baptismal entry of Ann Parsons,  which is as you already have is  (30-3-

1701)  dau of Thomas & Elizabeth) Farmer    born 25-3 in the South MoretonPRs.

No more info is listed.


Regarding Jonathon Keate - this is what I have found in the Harwell  PRs ;

Katherine Woodley marr John Keate  30-11-1628

No more info is listed


As for baptisms, I've looked from 1590 - 1614 and found the following;

20-3-1591/2  John Keat  son of John   -------

there are two other baptisms which i don't think are relevant but included for info;

18-11-1610     John Keat son of George & Mary

28-11-1610     John Keat son of Stephen & Joan


There is a marriage on 4-6-14570 of John Keat to Alce Smalbone - no further details

listed.

Thank you very much Alan, that has been a great help.  No, KN  I did not know there was a house called Woodley's in East Hagbourne, thank you for that info.  I have lots of info on Woodley's in Hagbourne and Harwell, I'm trying to link something to Thomas Woodley, all I know about him is his marriage in Hagbourne.  Thanks so much for your time and effort, greatly appreciated.  I will try again to find Thomas and his parents, I have a number of possibles, but nothing to link them all together.... There's also a Woodleys cottage in Brightwell cum Sotwell (It's for sale right now).  Brightwell's only a couple of miles away across the fields.

Could this be the Thomas Woodley  your after? ;

Baptised  14-9-1709 son of William & Joan  - Abingdon St.Helens ex OFHS

If it is,  then his parents were married at Abingdon St.Helens on
"16-4-1695  William Woodley to Joan Martin - Sutton"


Thomas was the 7th child born to them. There may be more but haven't looked after finding this Thomas.
