I suppose thequestionj then would be why was the child born in Mintlaw and not at the mothers home (domicile)

Anyway thats my theory but feel free to shoot me down in flames

Sounds as good a theory as any.  As for the baby being born there, babies have a habit of being born anywhere they d*** well please  :D :D

Google maps show Whitehouse near Alford.

Mary may have gone, or been sent, away from home to have her baby where she wasn't known.
I think the fact that her Domicile (usual residence/ home address) was stated suggests that she did not usually live at Hill of Mintlaw, as she would have if she was a servant there.
