Hi Mark.

How very sad.  :(

Sometime relatives do not understand that other family members
may want contact with loved ones even though they do not.

It must have been a terrible time for the family and I really appreciate
you sharing with me.

Is there no other family member who knew him and would fill in
some gaps for you.

Sandy

Hi Sandy

It seems that everything prior to 1945 was expunged from our family history.  I know when the family split up it had a very bad effect on my Mother, she was sent to live with an Aunt and that feeling of rejection has never left her.  All I have is a few Photos of (Walter) George Hunt and some mementos of his Army service.  There were some other family photos that were quickly snapped up by my Mother and Aunts who were desperate to have some record of their childhoods.   After his funeral we briefly talked to a neighbour who said that he had worked in shoe factory before retirement.

Does the name Clifford Jordan mean anything in relation to someone else serving, probably in the band of the Northamptonshire Regiment?  I only ask as written in pencil in the back of his Paybook is this:  "Good Luck boy and God bless you Your Best Pal Cliff Jordan  Blackdown 11 April 27"

Morning Mark.

I am afraid I do not know of a Clifford Jordan.

Maybe contacting Northampton Musuem would be usefull.

Have you applied for Walter's service record being his grand-son
as you do not say if your Mother is still living.

Good Morning Sandy, thanks for your reply.  Any good links to go about getting my Grandfathers service record?  My Mother is still alive but in a very bad way and isn't in a position to fill in any of the blanks.

Thanks again Mark.

Hi Sandy

Glad to help  :)

Any pointers on earlier wars?  A great grandfather is missing in 1891 and 1901 (comes home in between as he marries and has children) and in a photo later in his life we can see medals poking out from under his jacket.

Have seen a name matching his on a site but nothing to confirm it is him?  Just wondered if there was anywhere I could start looking?

Regards
Julie

Earlier service records are generally stored at the National Archives under the archive series of files referenced as WO97. FindMyPast has these digitalised. The search index often has a date and place of birth. If he served in a campaign in India or South Africa then medal entitlement would be in WO100 (though with no identifying details). WO100 is on Ancestry. It might be an idea to start a new topic asking for help, since we would not want to derail Sandy's main request topic here.

Incidentally, are you the one who Sandy is looking for details of Amos John Floyd Brooks for?

Hi Julie.

In answer to Steve's question the answer is YES for Amos, although as
you e-mailed me I presumed it was personal.

Never mind I have already sent you a link to the other topic.

Also the Welliingborough Memorial with his name and the entry of
the W.D.

You can start a request on the Armed Forces board for the person
I know you mean.
