Hi ricky1,

It could well be, the Haddon checks out and his age is within 2yrs to the 1861. The rest of his family seem to be elusive and change over the period 1841-1861.

This is what part of the canal is like today (not at Tallington, but near Uffington, a couple of miles to the west). http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/608236

There is a footpath alongside part of it which I walked a few years ago when my knees were in better condition than they are today  ;D

I need to piece it all together now and see what to investigate next, i've looked for Charles and Elizabeths marriage but to no avail.
