Windas of Los Angeles - and Captain Jack

Hi folks,

I'm trying to fill in some gaps in my family history. An uncle of my grandmother emigrated to California from Australia. He was Cedric WINDAS and became something of a specialist in naval history. He had two sons (that I am aware of): Wilford (b. 1914) and Mervyn (b. 1917).

That's all I know. I *think* that Mervyn was also known as Jack (based on a 1930 census lookup). I don't know if either Wilford or Jack married.

Some research shows that there was a Jack Windas who was a captain of the American Presidents line. I'd love to know if they were one and the same person. I'd also love to know if there are any other decendants.

I believe there is a Windas family in New York who are presumably related somewhere back, but not directly.

Arrival date was 17 October 1949.  Ship: SS. President Mc Kinley.  Sailed from Manila, PI; arrived San Francisco, CA
Length of service at sea was 12 years
Position in ship's company: Master
He was 6', 180 pounds

He is shown on several California passenger and crew lists, each time his position was Master.

Without checking every list, it appears that he started sailing around 1937, and he is listed as Cadet.

A 1954 list indicates his birthplace was California.

Briefly looking at the names of some of the ships, the line could have been the American President Lines.  Names of some of the ships: President Monroe, President Polk, President Jefferson, President Garfield and President Van Buren.
