Hi Shanko
I am trying to find Nightingales in Battersea, who married into the Allen family. My search for marriage certificates has drawn a blank. The Nightingale in question is (Florence) Elizabeth Nightingale born c1860. She became a cook and married a Thomas Allen, a woodpavement company foreman, who ended his days at an Epsom hospital for the insane due to a head injury. I have found a census 1911 entry, possibly for their child my GGM Violet May Allen at 21 Wickersley Road which is signed off by a Florence Elizabeth Nightingale and has a Mr Allen on the front, however my Nan says that her uncle was not known as Edward (she may be mistaken). Oddly daughter is crossed out and lodger was writen over the entry. On the birth cert for my GGM the names are Elizabeth Allen (formerly Nightingale) but my mum said that she was named Florence. Was it common for people to drop names they may not have liked on Official docs do you know?
There are so many Nightingales who have lines dating back to 1450's it would be great to make some progress on this and possibly link to them, not least as I would like to show my Nan who is 94 something significant

We think there maybe a quaker link too.
many thanks
L
